The FAG 20314-MB spherical roller bearing with a brass cage can accommodate high radial loads at dimensions of 70 × 150 × 35 mm and compensates for misalignment with angular movement.
The FAG 20314 -MB spherical roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing with spherical rollers designed for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 70 mm, an outside diameter of 150 mm and a width of 35 mm, this roller bearing is particularly suitable for heavy radial loads. Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing adjusts to shaft deflection with angular adjustment. FAG manufactures the components to standard tolerance P0/PN or ABEC 1.
Design engineers opt for the 20314 -MB spherical roller bearing whenever shaft deflection or misalignment between the shaft and the bearing housing needs to be compensated for. During operation, the barrel rollers automatically align themselves within the spherical outer ring raceway, which reduces edge pressure on the roller edges. Due to its open design without integrated seals, the component can be integrated into external lubrication systems, such as in pedestal bearing housings. It primarily absorbs high radial forces and is suitable for shock-loaded applications in industrial operations.
The suffix -MB denotes a solid brass cage that guides the rolling elements. This cage design withstands mechanical vibrations as well as high temperatures within the permissible range of -30 to +150 degrees. The standard radial bearing clearance serves to provide the required operating clearance when shaft and housing tolerances are correct. As no sealing washers are fitted, users can flexibly select grease or lubricating oil to suit the operating conditions and seal the bearing location via the housing.
Barrel bearings are single-row, angular-contact roller bearings with a hollow-spherical ground outer ring raceway and barrel-shaped rollers. They can accommodate high radial loads and tolerate misalignment and shaft deflection without incurring excessive edge stresses. Compared with double-row self-aligning roller bearings, they offer a compact design for confined installation spaces.
With an internal diameter of 70 mm, an external diameter of 150 mm and a width of 35 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions for this size series. Before installation, the shaft seat and housing bore should be checked to ensure they match these mounting dimensions.
The solid brass cage, marked -MB, guides the rolling elements and withstands vibrations and acceleration forces. Compared with standard polyamide cages, brass is particularly suitable for applications involving higher operating temperatures and more demanding operating conditions, as the material offers high mechanical stability.
As the bearing is designed without integrated seals, the bearing housing requires an external sealing system to protect against dirt and moisture. Lubrication is carried out using either suitable greases or lubricating oils, which are designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. Design engineers frequently use split pedestal or flanged bearing housings for this purpose.
The standard radial bearing clearance, often referred to technically as ‘CN’, defines the radial play of the rollers when the bearing is unloaded prior to assembly. It is dimensioned such that, once the bearing has been pressed onto the shaft and fitted into the housing, a suitable operating clearance is established, provided that standard fits are used.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees. The brass cage and the dimensional stability of the bearing rings support this operating range. In practice, the actual operating limit is determined by the external lubricant selected, which must be approved for the respective operating temperature.
