The 20311-TVP spherical roller bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings, with a 55 mm bore and an outer diameter of 120 mm, provides angular misalignment compensation for heavy radial loads.
The 20311-TVP barrel roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing that accommodates high radial forces and automatically compensates for shaft misalignment. The barrel-shaped rollers run in a hollow-spherical outer ring raceway. The component is manufactured by FAG Wälzlager and has dimensions of 55x120x29 mm. It is suitable for applications in mechanical and plant engineering where deflection or misalignment may occur.
This bearing is primarily used in designs subject to intermittent radial loads. Thanks to its angularly adjustable design, the component compensates for misalignment between the housing and the shaft during operation without generating edge pressures on the rollers. Typical applications include industrial shaft bearings subject to high radial forces. Design engineers use this design where shaft deflection under load cannot be completely prevented by the design itself.
The version with the suffix TVP features a polyamide cage, which ensures quiet running and reduced component weight. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, the housing must be sealed externally against dirt and moisture. The component has a standard radial bearing clearance and is suitable for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. It is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 55 mm, an external diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm. These dimensions allow for direct installation in appropriately sized housings and bearing seats.
The polyamide cage guides the barrel-shaped rollers evenly along their raceway and prevents them from coming into contact with one another. The low weight of the plastic reduces friction losses and inertial forces within the bearing, which contributes to exceptionally smooth running.
The open design allows external lubricants to enter directly via the machine housing. Grease or lubricating oil can reach the rolling elements unhindered. The housing must therefore be fitted with its own seals to prevent the ingress of dirt particles.
Standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set radial clearance in the unloaded state, without any sign designation. This clearance serves to compensate for operational thermal expansion of the shaft and inner ring during operation, without causing stress in the rolling elements.
The operating temperature range is specified as -30 to +120 degrees. This range is essentially limited by the material of the polyamide cage, which retains its mechanical dimensional stability within these limits.
A spherical roller bearing always has a single row of rollers, whilst self-aligning roller bearings have two rows of rollers. The spherical roller bearing is primarily designed to accommodate very high radial forces and allows for angular misalignment; however, due to its design, it is only suitable for relatively low axial loads.
