The FAG 20232 -MB spherical roller bearing can accommodate high radial loads with a bore of 160 mm, an outside diameter of 290 mm and a width of 48 mm.
The single-row 20232 -MB spherical roller bearing from FAG is an angular contact rolling bearing designed for heavy radial loads in mechanical and plant engineering. Thanks to its barrel-shaped rollers, this design compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection between the inner and outer rings during operation. This version features a cylindrical bore with a diameter of 160 mm, an outer diameter of 290 mm and a width of 48 mm. With the standard tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the bearing is suitable for standardised fits.
Designs featuring long shafts or flexible housing structures make specific use of the barrel bearing’s angularly adjustable raceway. The bearing primarily absorbs unilateral and shock-like radial forces, such as those encountered in heavy-duty shaft mountings or under dynamic radial loads. As the FAG roller bearing compensates for misalignment, it prevents edge pressure on the roller elements. Maintenance engineers and designers prefer to use this roller bearing at bearing locations where, due to the nature of the process, assembly inaccuracies or deflection under load occur.
The designation ‘MB’ indicates a solid brass cage that guides the roller elements precisely. Compared to plastic cages, this material withstands higher mechanical stresses, vibrations and operating temperatures between –30 and +200 degrees Celsius. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, you should select the type of lubricant and lubrication intervals to suit the ambient conditions. The component requires an external seal on the housing to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the raceways.
The roller bearing has an inside diameter of 160 mm, an outside diameter of 290 mm and a width of 48 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised main dimensions for spherical roller bearings in this series. Before installation, check the shaft seat and the housing bore to ensure that the rings are fitted to the correct dimensions.
At FAG, the designation ‘MB’ stands for a solid brass cage. This cage design offers high dimensional stability under dynamic loads, vibrations and at elevated operating temperatures. It is the preferred choice in applications where standard sheet metal or plastic cages reach their thermal or mechanical limits.
This model has the standard radial bearing clearance (CN). This clearance between the rollers and the raceways is designed for standard shaft and housing fits at balanced operating temperatures. It ensures that, once pressed onto the shaft journal, the bearing can rotate freely and without thermal stress.
FAG specifies the permissible operating range for this bearing design as -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the rings and the robust brass cage allow them to be used under demanding thermal conditions. Ensure that you select a lubricant whose operating temperature range covers the actual operating temperature at the bearing location.
As an open bearing, this design is intended for installation in enclosed gearboxes or separately sealed housings. As it does not require sealing washers, the bearing can be lubricated directly with oil or grease via external lubrication systems. Furthermore, the open design allows for straightforward visual inspection and cleaning during machine maintenance.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (also known as standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1). This class defines the permissible dimensional, geometric and running deviations for standard applications in industrial mechanical engineering. It allows for the cost-effective replacement of worn components without the need for time-consuming reworking of the surrounding mating parts.
