FAG Wälzlager 20230 -MB spherical roller bearing: Single-row roller bearing measuring 150 x 270 x 45 mm, with a brass cage and standard radial clearance, designed for demanding radial loads.
The 20230 -MB barrel bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings is a single-row roller bearing designed primarily to accommodate high radial forces. Thanks to the hollow-spherical design of the outer ring raceway, this design automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. The component has a cylindrical bore of 150 mm, an outer diameter of 270 mm and a width of 45 mm. Designed as an open rolling bearing, it can be flexibly integrated into existing lubrication systems in industrial plants.
This roller bearing is primarily used in heavy-duty mechanical engineering where shock loads and misalignments occur. Its use is recommended in designs where shafts yield elastically under load. As the bearing compensates for angular misalignment, no harmful edge stresses arise on the raceways. Manufacture to the standard tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) enables straightforward installation in bearing seats with standard tolerances.
The solid brass cage gives the 20230-MB spherical roller bearing high resistance to vibrations, acceleration forces and oscillations. Furthermore, this cage variant supports a wide temperature range from –30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The standard radial bearing clearance ensures smooth running under normal operating conditions. As the bearing is an open design with no integrated seal, the bearing housing requires an external housing seal as well as a regulated supply of grease or oil.
As a single-row, self-aligning roller bearing, this design accommodates heavy radial loads. It compensates for angular misalignment between the shaft and housing without requiring additional contact pressure. The designation ‘MB’ refers to a solid brass cage which effectively absorbs vibrations.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 150 mm, an external diameter of 270 mm and a total width of 45 mm. These standardised mounting dimensions allow it to be fitted into standardised housings and machine frames.
The suffix ‘MB’ stands for a solid brass cage. Brass cages offer high mechanical strength and resistance to vibration. They are therefore particularly suitable for environments subject to vibration or with consistently high operating temperatures.
The bearing is designed for ambient temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The brass cage and the dimensional stability of the components are tailored to this temperature range. These operating conditions must be taken into account separately when selecting the lubricant.
As the bearing is an open design and has no integrated seals, it is accessible to grease or lubricating oil. Protection against dirt, moisture and lubricant loss is provided by external seals in the bearing housing, such as shaft seals or labyrinth systems.
The bearing is fitted with standard radial clearance. This standard clearance is dimensioned such that, once the bearing has been pressed onto the shaft and under normal operating temperatures, it will run with low vibration and low friction.
