The 20228 -MB spherical roller bearing from FAG Wälzlager, measuring 140 x 250 x 42 mm and featuring a brass cage, provides reliable guidance under high radial loads and shaft deflections.
The 20228 -MB spherical roller bearing is a single-row, angular-contact roller bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. The barrel-shaped rollers run on a hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, enabling the bearing to automatically compensate for misalignment and shaft deflection. Manufactured to the standard tolerance P0/PN (ABEC 1), this design is suitable for conventional shaft mountings in mechanical engineering where high radial forces must be reliably absorbed.
This rolling bearing is primarily installed where alignment errors between the housing and the shaft, caused by manufacturing or load factors, need to be compensated for. Typical applications can be found in general gearbox and heavy machinery construction. Compared to rigid roller bearings, the spherical geometry counteracts harmful edge pressures at the ends of the rollers. Thanks to its solid brass cage, this bearing is also suitable for operating conditions involving vibrations, oscillations or high continuous temperatures.
The suffix ‘MB’ denotes a guided solid brass cage, which offers high thermal and mechanical load-carrying capacity. In combination with the open design, this bearing allows operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees. As there are no integrated seals, you can flexibly integrate the bearing location into existing lubrication systems. The standard radial bearing clearance ensures proven clearance characteristics for standard fit conditions.
This roller bearing has an inside diameter of 140 mm, an outside diameter of 250 mm and a width across flats of 42 mm. These key dimensions comply with standardised series for spherical roller bearings and allow for a precise fit in corresponding shaft seats and standardised bearing housings.
The abbreviation MB refers to a solid brass cage. This type of cage is characterised by its high strength and ensures precise guidance of the barrel-shaped rollers, even under severe vibrations or varying speeds. Furthermore, brass can withstand higher continuous operating temperatures than conventional polyamide cages.
The bearing has a standard radial clearance. With typical fit selections for the shaft and housing, and at moderate operating temperatures, this standard clearance provides the necessary operating clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways of both bearing rings.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +200 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the rings and the brass cage design allow them to be used in hot industrial environments, provided you select lubricants that are approved for these thermal conditions.
As an open bearing, this design has no integrated grinding or cover discs. This allows for lubrication as required via external housing seals using oil or grease, and makes it easier to flush out old lubricant residues during routine maintenance.
The spherical roller bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to ABEC 1 in the US standard. This standard tolerance defines permissible deviations for bore, outer diameter and concentricity, ensuring reliable precision in standard mechanical engineering.
