The FAG 20224 -MB barrel bearing with a brass cage withstands high radial forces, compensates for misalignment and measures 120 x 215 x 40 mm.
The FAG 20224 -MB spherical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for demanding mechanical applications. Thanks to its spherical rollers, this design automatically compensates for misalignment between the shaft and housing, as well as elastic shaft deflection. Fitted with a brass cage and standard radial clearance, this open bearing is particularly suitable for machinery subjected to high radial loads. With main dimensions of 120 x 215 x 40 mm, the component fits dimensionally accurately into standardised bearing seats.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians primarily use the 20224 -MB spherical roller bearing where high radial forces coincide with unavoidable angular misalignments. Typical applications include heavy-duty drives and mechanical shaft bearings. As the bearing compensates for misalignment without applying edge pressure to the rolling elements, it prevents overloading of the raceways. In combination with suitable bearing housings, it forms a robust bearing unit for demanding environmental conditions.
The suffix ‘-MB’ denotes a solid brass cage which guides the rollers precisely, even under severe vibrations and shock loads. The brass material offers high strength under dynamic loads. Furthermore, the rolling bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 °C to +200 °C. As this is an open design without integrated seals, the installation site requires external sealing of the housing as well as a lubrication system suited to the operating temperature.
A spherical roller bearing features a spherical outer ring raceway and spherical rollers. This enables it to self-align when the shaft is misaligned, much like a self-aligning ball bearing; however, due to its design, it can withstand higher radial loads. The 20224-MB version combines this angular adjustability with a solid brass cage for heavy-duty industrial applications.
The bearing has a cylindrical internal bore of 120 mm. The outer diameter is 215 mm and the bearing width is 40 mm. These key dimensions correspond to the standard size series for spherical roller bearings and allow for installation in accordance with standards in machine housings and on shafts with the appropriate tolerances.
The suffix -MB denotes a solid brass cage. Cages of this design are characterised by high resistance to vibrations, impacts and rapid acceleration. They are primarily used in applications involving high continuous temperatures or demanding mechanical operating conditions to ensure the rollers are guided securely.
The roller bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 °C to +200 °C. In addition to the bearing steel, the actual operating limit is determined primarily by the lubricant selected. At temperatures close to the upper limit, the grease or lubricating oil used must be thermally compatible with these values.
Tolerance class P0 (often referred to as PN for metric bearings) corresponds to accuracy class ABEC 1. It describes the standard tolerance for dimensional and running accuracy of rolling bearings. This accuracy is the standard for the vast majority of industrial machinery applications and gearboxes.
As the bearing is designed as an open type without integrated seals, lubrication is provided by grease or lubricating oil in the housing. To protect against dirt and moisture, external housing seals such as radial shaft seals or labyrinth seals should be fitted, selected to suit the operating conditions.
