FAG 20222 -K-MB-C3 spherical roller bearing: Single-row roller bearing with a tapered bore (110 x 200 x 38 mm), brass cage and increased C3 radial clearance for demanding shaft mountings.
The FAG 20222 -K-MB-C3 spherical roller bearing is an open roller bearing with dimensions of 110 mm bore, 200 mm outer diameter and 38 mm width. The design features an angularly adjustable row of rollers, which compensates for shaft deflection or misalignment between the housing and the shaft during operation. With its integrated brass cage and manufacture to standard tolerances (P0/PN or ABEC 1), the component is suitable for thermal conditions ranging from -30 to +200 degrees.
The design is engineered to withstand high radial loads and compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection. The barrel-shaped rollers run in a hollow spherical outer ring raceway, which reliably accommodates misalignment during operation. Thanks to its open design, the bearing can be integrated into existing recirculating lubrication systems or supplied with grease via the housing. The solid brass cage reliably guides the rolling elements under demanding conditions in mechanical and plant engineering.
The tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 allows for secure mounting directly onto a tapered shaft seat or, using a collet, onto smooth cylindrical shafts. When the bearing is slid onto the tapered seat, the radial clearance of the bearing is reduced. The slightly increased C3 bearing clearance specifically compensates for this reduction. As a result, sufficient operating clearance remains during operation to ensure low-friction running, even when the inner ring expands due to temperature changes.
With a bore diameter of 110 mm, an outside diameter of 200 mm and a total width of 38 mm, the bearing has standardised key dimensions. The bore has a taper ratio of 1:12. Comparing these geometric values with the design drawing ensures a precise fit when mounting the bearing onto the shaft and housing.
The symbol ‘K’ denotes a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. The abbreviation ‘MB’ stands for a guided solid brass cage, which offers high mechanical strength. ‘C3’ denotes a radial bearing clearance that is slightly greater than the standard clearance. This combination facilitates assembly and prevents the rolling elements from seizing under the influence of heat.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +200 degrees. The brass cage fitted retains its mechanical properties within this temperature range. The lubricant selected should be carefully matched to the operating temperature, as the lubricant’s performance limits have a significant influence on the actual service life within the housing.
The bearing is mounted either directly onto a tapered shaft journal or, on cylindrical shafts, via a suitable locking sleeve. Axial movement along the taper causes the inner ring to expand, thereby specifically reducing the bearing clearance. During assembly, the remaining radial bearing clearance must be checked using a feeler gauge to prevent overloading.
The open design, which does not feature integrated sealing washers, allows for flexible lubrication via the surrounding housing system, for example by means of an oil bath, circulating lubrication or grease-filled housing. The lubricant reaches the rolling elements and the brass cage unhindered. External seals on the housing cover protect the bearing assembly against the ingress of dust, moisture and foreign particles.
Manufacturing is carried out to tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to ABEC 1. This is the standard accuracy class for general industrial applications in mechanical engineering and gear manufacturing. This tolerance class offers reliable concentricity and fit accuracy within standard manufacturing tolerances for the mating components.
