The FAG 20218 -MB spherical roller bearing is an open roller bearing with a 90 mm bore, an outer diameter of 160 mm and a solid brass cage.
The FAG 20218 -MB spherical roller bearing can withstand high radial loads and compensates for misalignment or shaft deflection with angular movement. Thanks to its spherical rollers, this bearing is suitable for industrial applications involving shock loads. In the open version without a seal, the component is designed for lubricating oil or grease. With main dimensions of 90 x 160 x 30 mm, the design complies with standardised industrial dimensions to standard tolerance P0/PN or ABEC 1.
This single-row spherical roller bearing is particularly suitable for shaft assemblies where operational deflection or misalignment occurs. As the bearing automatically compensates for angular misalignment during operation, it prevents excessive edge stresses on the roller elements and thus promotes even load distribution across the entire raceway width.
In suitable housing designs, the bearing is ideally used as a non-locating or locating bearing under moderate axial forces in both directions. The bearing is particularly useful where elastic deformations of the surrounding structure need to be compensated for.
The solid brass cage, identified by the suffix -MB, offers high strength under demanding operating conditions and mechanical vibrations. Brass is suitable for high acceleration forces as well as thermal loads within the permissible temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
The standard radial bearing clearance provides balanced operating clearance under normal operating conditions. As an open bearing, the bearing location requires a suitable lubricant supply via the housing, as well as effective protection against the ingress of contaminants.
The dimensions are 90 mm bore, 160 mm outer diameter and 30 mm width. These dimensions allow for a precise fit on suitable shafts and in bearing housings of the standardised tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The suffix -MB denotes a solid brass cage which reliably guides the barrel rollers. This design is characterised by high mechanical strength and is suitable for operating conditions involving vibrations, shock loads or high angular accelerations.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set radial clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. This clearance compensates for the usual reduction in diameter that occurs when the bearing is pressed onto the shaft seat, as well as for normal thermal expansion during operation, without causing any stress.
Open roller bearings do not have integrated sealing washers. This design allows for flexible lubrication with grease or oil applied directly via the surrounding machine housing. At the same time, the open design facilitates continuous relubrication and flushing as part of scheduled maintenance intervals for stationary machinery.
The 20218-MB spherical roller bearing is specified to have a permissible operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the bearing rings and the brass cage retain their dimensional stability. When designing the system, you must ensure that the lubricant used is suitable for the respective operating temperature.
The concave hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring allows the inner ring, together with the set of rollers, to adjust its angular position. As a result, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment between the shaft and the housing without any additional edge loads being exerted on the rolling elements.
