The SKF 29417 E axial self-aligning roller bearing accommodates high unilateral axial forces and automatically compensates for misalignment with an 85 mm bore.
The 29417 E axial self-aligning roller bearing is a heavy-duty rolling bearing designed for applications subject to significant axial loads. Manufactured from standard rolling bearing steel (100Cr6), this variant from the SKF Explorer range combines high load-carrying capacity with dimensional stability. The angularly adjustable design allows for the compensation of both static and dynamic misalignments between the shaft and housing. The component has an 85 mm bore, an 180 mm outer diameter and a height of 58 mm.
This rolling bearing is designed to accommodate heavy axial forces in one direction. Thanks to the crowned rollers and the spherical housing raceway, the bearing compensates for shaft deflection during operation. In addition to pure axial forces, the design also transmits radial load components. The bearing is used in bearing arrangements where combined loads occur alongside misalignments.
The Explorer version from SKF offers an optimised internal geometry and tempered surfaces for uniform rolling behaviour of the rolling elements. The guided sheet steel cage maintains precise spacing between the rollers and withstands mechanical stresses during continuous operation. With a permissible temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees, the component is suitable for demanding thermal conditions. As the bearing is single-acting, it specifically absorbs thrust forces in one main load direction.
The main dimensions are 85 mm internal diameter (bore), 180 mm external diameter and 58 mm height or width. These dimensions define the installation space on the shaft and within the bearing housing, and correspond to the standardised dimensions for this size.
‘Single-direction’ means that, due to its design, the roller bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction. For applications with varying thrust directions, you must either fit a second bearing opposite it or use a double-direction bearing arrangement.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensionally stable structure within this temperature range.
The sheet steel cage guides the barrel-shaped roller elements evenly along the raceways and prevents the rolling elements from coming into contact with one another. It is characterised by its low weight and provides sufficient space for the circulation of lubricants.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 standard. This standard tolerance fully meets the usual precision requirements in general mechanical engineering, gearbox manufacturing and plant engineering.
Yes, thanks to the angled arrangement of the rollers, the design absorbs not only predominantly axial forces but also radial load components. The axial force component must always remain sufficiently high to maintain contact between the rollers.
