The 51405 axial deep-groove ball bearing accommodates axial loads on one side whilst maintaining compact dimensions of 25 × 60 × 24 mm.
The FAG 51405 axial deep-groove ball bearing is designed to support rotating shafts that transmit purely axial loads in one direction. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6), the design features a guided sheet steel cage and operates within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. As it is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, the rolling bearing complies with current industry standards and is suitable for standardised mounting conditions in mechanical engineering.
This axial bearing absorbs axial forces from one direction only and provides axial support for the mounted shaft. The component must not bear any radial loads, which is why designs usually incorporate separate radial bearings on the shaft. Typical applications are found in mechanical bearing arrangements where thrust forces act in one direction only. As the bearing is not angularly adjustable, the connecting parts must be manufactured to be plane-parallel and at right angles to the axis of rotation.
Precise alignment is crucial during design and assembly. As this version is not angularly adjustable and is supplied without shims, misalignment or skewing will result in edge pressure and premature wear. The shaft disc and housing disc have different internal diameters: the shaft disc sits firmly on the shaft with its 25 mm bore, whilst the housing disc requires some clearance within the housing. Suitable lubrication within the temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees protects the rolling elements.
The 51405 axial deep-groove ball bearing is designed as a single-direction bearing exclusively for axial thrust forces acting in one direction. It must not be subjected to any significant radial loads. For combined load conditions, users should combine this axial bearing on the shaft with a suitable radial bearing that absorbs the radial forces separately.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 25 mm, an outside diameter of 60 mm and a height of 24 mm. These dimensions comply with the standardised specifications for this component. The shaft washer is guided on the shaft, whilst the housing washer, with an outer diameter of 60 mm, transfers the load into the housing.
No, the 51405 axial deep-groove ball bearing is not angle-adjustable. It is sensitive to misalignment between the shaft and the housing. To avoid excessive edge stresses, the contact surfaces on the connecting parts must be flat and exactly perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Additional shims to compensate for misalignment are not provided for this design.
The permissible operating temperature range of the bearing is between -30 and +150 degrees Celsius. The bearing washers, made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. During design, it must be ensured that the lubricant used is also specified for these operating temperatures.
The designations P0 or PN (standard tolerance according to ISO) and ABEC 1 define the standardised manufacturing precision for dimensional and running accuracy. This tolerance class covers the typical requirements of general mechanical engineering. It ensures reliable compatibility with standardised shaft and housing fits.
The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements along their circular path and prevents the balls from coming into direct contact with one another. This reduces friction, noise and heat build-up during operation. At the same time, the cage design helps to ensure an even load distribution across the entire circumference of the raceway.
