The SKF 51209 single-direction axial deep-groove ball bearing accommodates purely axial loads whilst maintaining compact dimensions of 45 × 73 × 20 mm.
The 51209 axial deep groove ball bearing supports shafts subjected to axial forces acting in one direction and consists of a shaft ring, a housing ring and the guided ball set. SKF manufactures the components from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 with a sheet steel cage. As this design supports purely axial loads, it must not be subjected to radial forces. With a bore of 45 mm, an outside diameter of 73 mm and a height of 20 mm, this roller bearing is suitable for compact designs.
This axial bearing accommodates unidirectional axial thrust forces on rigid shafts. Typical applications include assemblies subject to predominantly axial loads and low radial guiding forces. The components are separable, meaning that the shaft and housing washers can be fitted separately. As the bearing must sit flush and does not compensate for angular misalignment, precisely manufactured mating parts are essential.
Before installation, ensure that the mating surfaces are aligned in a plane-parallel manner. As the bearing is not angularly adjustable, misalignment will result in uneven load distribution. The manufactured tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1 meets standard industrial requirements. Furthermore, the temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees must be observed. A sufficient axial load during operation prevents the rolling elements from slipping.
The shaft washer has a bore of 45 mm, whilst the outer diameter of the housing washer is 73 mm. The axial height is 20 mm. Based on these key dimensions, the single-acting bearing can be precisely integrated into the surrounding structure.
This design accommodates only axial loads from a single direction and supports the shaft on one side accordingly. This type of bearing is not designed to transmit radial forces; radial bearing loads must always be supported by separate radial bearings.
Both the two bearing rings and the balls are made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). A guided sheet steel cage separates the rolling elements, maintains a defined distance between them and ensures even load distribution during operation.
No, the bearing is not angle-adjustable and is supplied without a spherical washer. The shaft and housing bore must be precisely aligned and provide perpendicular contact surfaces, as any misalignment will result in uneven edge loading of the balls.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +150 degrees. Within these limits, the components made of roller bearing steel and sheet steel retain their dimensional stability. The lubricant used must be selected to suit the specific operating temperature of the bearing location.
The axial bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 or PN (comparable to ABEC 1). This level of accuracy covers the usual dimensional and running tolerances for standard applications in mechanical engineering, without the need for any specific precision requirements.
