The SKF 51407 axial deep-groove ball bearing accommodates single-direction axial forces with a 35 mm bore, an 80 mm outer diameter and a width of 32 mm.
The 51407 axial deep groove ball bearing supports shafts in the axial direction and guides shaft movements with high positioning accuracy. As a single-direction rolling bearing, this SKF design accommodates pure axial loads from a single direction. Due to its separable design, the shaft ring, housing ring and ball-guided sheet steel cage can be fitted separately. This facilitates installation in machinery and equipment. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6), the design is suitable for a wide temperature range.
The bearing absorbs purely axial forces in one direction provided that no significant radial loads act on the bearing mounting. Typical applications include vertical shaft guides, spindle bearings and general mechanical engineering designs. As the bearing is not angularly adjustable, the surrounding structure must be designed to be perpendicular and dimensionally stable. Misalignment or tilting between the shaft and housing cannot be compensated for and will result in uneven loading of the raceways.
When designing the bearing arrangement, it must be noted that the 51407 axial deep-groove ball bearing accommodates axial forces from one direction only. If varying load directions occur during operation, single-direction bearings are not sufficient. For combined loads, it is recommended to use a separate radial bearing in combination. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements and allows for an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. The product complies with the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 and is supplied without an additional washer.
This version has a bore of 35 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a height and width of 32 mm. Thanks to these standardised key dimensions, the bearing fits into standardised housing bores and onto corresponding shaft seats in general mechanical engineering.
Pure axial deep-groove ball bearings are designed exclusively for axial loads. Radial forces must not be transmitted via this bearing, as they will lead to misalignment and premature wear. If radial forces occur during operation, the shaft must be radially supported by an additional radial bearing.
The axial deep-groove ball bearing 51407 has a permissible temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. The bearing rings, made from 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, and the sheet steel cage remain dimensionally stable within this temperature range. When lubricating, care must be taken to ensure that the selected lubricant is approved for the relevant operating temperature.
This classification describes the standard accuracy for rolling bearings in terms of dimensional and running tolerances. P0 stands for the standard tolerance, whilst ABEC 1 denotes the corresponding classification. This tolerance class meets the requirements of most industrial applications and general mechanical engineering.
The flat housing disc in this version is not angle-adjustable. The contact surfaces on the shaft and housing must be machined so as to be exactly perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Misalignment or skewing leads to edge stresses on the raceways, which is why rigid and precisely machined connecting parts are required.
The sheet steel cage maintains a uniform distance between the rolling elements and prevents the balls from coming into direct contact with one another. This ensures even load distribution, reduces internal friction and guides the rolling elements through the load zone of the bearing.
