The SKF 51216 axial deep-groove ball bearing accommodates single-direction axial loads with a shaft diameter of 80 mm in industrial applications.
The 51216 axial deep groove ball bearing is a separable rolling bearing specifically designed to accommodate pure axial forces in one direction. With dimensions of 80 mm bore diameter, 115 mm outside diameter and 28 mm height, the bearing provides axial support for rotating shafts. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and fitted with a sturdy sheet steel cage, the unit is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. Thanks to its separable design, the housing washer, shaft washer and ball set can be handled separately during installation.
The design is suitable for assemblies in general mechanical engineering where medium to high axial loads must be supported parallel to the axis of rotation. The rolling bearing absorbs thrust forces in one direction, but by its very nature is not intended for transverse or radial loads. If combined forces occur in a bearing arrangement, additional radial bearings must be incorporated to ensure that no transverse forces act on the raceways of the rings.
As this model is not angularly adjustable, the flat geometry of the raceways requires precisely right-angled machined contact surfaces on the shaft and housing. The bearing cannot compensate for angular or misalignment errors, as uneven edge loads would impair its running performance. SKF manufactures this product to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. The product comprises the axial deep-groove ball bearing only, without shims, consisting of a shaft disc, a housing disc and the guided ball and cage assembly.
As a separable roller bearing, this axial deep-groove ball bearing accommodates unilateral thrust and axial forces. The assembly comprises a shaft disc with an 80 mm bore, a housing disc with an 115 mm outer diameter, and a ball-and-cage ring with a height of 28 mm. It provides targeted support for shafts in an axial direction.
The bearing absorbs only axial forces from a defined direction. The design is unsuitable for radial forces or tilting moments. If radial loads occur in the system, these must be supported by separate radial bearings in order to relieve the ball raceways of the axial bearing.
No, this design is not angle-adjustable. The flat raceways require precise, right-angled alignment with the shaft axis. Misalignment leads to uneven loading of the balls, which is why flat and rigid mounting surfaces on both the shaft and the housing are absolutely essential.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees. The standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage ensure stable dimensional stability within this range. For operation, a lubricant must be selected whose thermal specification corresponds to the actual operating temperature of the bearing location.
The scope of supply includes the single-acting axial deep-groove ball bearing, comprising a shaft washer, a housing washer and a ball-cage assembly. Washers for compensating for angular misalignment are not included in this version. The individual bearing components can be fitted separately.
