The FAG 51308 axial deep-groove ball bearing (40x78x26 mm) accommodates unidirectional axial forces and is made from 100Cr6 rolling-element steel with a sheet steel cage.
The FAG 51308 axial deep-groove ball bearing is an open rolling bearing that guides shafts precisely in the axial direction. With a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 78 mm and a height of 26 mm, this bearing supports purely axial forces. As it is manufactured from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel and features a guided sheet steel cage, the assembly is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. The component is supplied as a bearing without a separate washer.
This axial bearing absorbs axial forces from a single direction only and supports rotating shafts against axial thrust forces. However, the design must not be subjected to radial loads. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering in bearing arrangements where unilateral axial forces need to be absorbed. As the bearing is not angularly adjustable, trouble-free operation requires that the mating surfaces in the housing and on the shaft are machined exactly at right angles to the axis of rotation.
As a single-direction version in tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, the bearing consists of a shaft disc, a housing disc and the ball-guided sheet steel cage. As the discs have flat contact surfaces, this design does not automatically compensate for manufacturing-related misalignment errors. Planar-parallel abutment surfaces on the shaft shoulder and a careful supply of lubricant are therefore crucial. As the model is unsealed, you should provide an external housing seal against dirt and moisture, depending on the ambient conditions.
With a bore of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 78 mm and a total width of 26 mm, the bearing supports unidirectional axial forces. The shaft washer is fitted securely onto the shaft, whilst the housing washer is fitted into the housing bore by its outer diameter to safely absorb pure axial forces.
As a single-direction axial bearing, this model accommodates axial loads from one direction only. It supports the shaft axially in one direction. Radial loads must not act on the bearing; therefore, radial forces in the bearing arrangement must be absorbed by a separate radial bearing.
Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and fitted with a sheet steel cage, the bearing is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. Care must always be taken to ensure that the lubricant used – whether grease or oil – is approved for the prevailing operating temperatures of the respective system.
The designations P0 or PN and ABEC 1 denote the standard tolerance for rolling bearings. This tolerance class covers the standard requirements in general industrial and mechanical engineering. It defines the permissible dimensional, geometric and running accuracies of the shaft and housing rings to ensure reliable concentricity.
The housing washer for this bearing has a flat seating surface and is fitted without a spherical washer. Consequently, the assembly has no angular adjustability and cannot compensate for misalignment between the shaft and the housing. The connecting parts of the assembly must therefore be machined to be plane-parallel and at right angles to the bearing axis.
The bearing is supplied open and does not have any integrated sealing washers. To protect the rolling elements and raceways from the ingress of dust, dirt particles or moisture, and to retain the lubricant within the rolling area, the bearing housing must be protected by external seals fitted to the surrounding casing.
