The FAG 53308 single-direction axial deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 40 × 78 × 28.5 mm, accommodates purely axial forces in one direction.
The 53308 axial deep-groove ball bearing is a separable rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a flat shaft ring and a spherical housing ring. The assembly guides shafts axially in one direction and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. The guided sheet steel cage ensures that the rolling elements remain at a defined distance from one another. The components can be assembled separately, which facilitates installation into the surrounding structure.
This thrust bearing is primarily used when pure axial loads need to be supported and radial forces are absorbed by separate radial bearings. It is suitable for designs subject to unidirectional axial loading. As the housing washer has a spherical contact surface, the bearing can be used in conjunction with a suitable shim to compensate for static misalignment. This prevents misalignments between the shaft and housing from causing localised edge loads.
The spherical shape of the housing washer forms the basis for an angularly adjustable bearing arrangement, provided the bearing is combined with a suitable spherical washer. This arrangement compensates for manufacturing-related misalignments or deflections. The washer is not included in the scope of supply. Operation requires a purely axial load, as the bearing cannot accommodate radial forces and radial loads lead to increased wear.
The bearing has a bore diameter of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 78 mm and a total width of 28.5 mm. These standardised dimensions enable a precise replacement in existing assemblies in accordance with the specifications of tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The bearing accommodates only axial loads from one direction and supports the shaft at one end. Due to its design, it cannot accommodate radial forces. If combined loads occur in your application, additional radial bearings must be fitted in parallel on the shaft to accommodate the transverse forces.
The housing washer for this bearing is designed with a spherical contact surface. When used in conjunction with a spherical washer (available separately), the bearing compensates for misalignment between the housing and the shaft. This reduces excessive edge stresses and helps to ensure uniform contact between the rolling elements and the raceways.
The scope of supply comprises solely the 53308 axial deep-groove ball bearing, consisting of a shaft washer, a housing washer and the filled sheet steel cage. If you wish to compensate for angular misalignment in the surrounding structure, the appropriate washer for the spherical housing disc must be provided or ordered separately.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures between -30 and +150 degrees. The dimensional stability of the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage is maintained within these limits. When specifying the lubrication, you should select lubricants whose thermal approval fully covers this temperature range.
The 53308 axial deep-groove ball bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This standard tolerance fully meets the usual industrial requirements for running accuracy and dimensional stability in general mechanical engineering and facilitates precise installation with standardised shaft and housing fits.
