The SKF 51316 axial deep-groove ball bearing accommodates unilateral axial loads for shaft diameters of 80 mm within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees.
The 51316 axial deep groove ball bearing is a separable rolling bearing designed to accommodate purely axial loads in one direction. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), this SKF component guides shafts with a bore diameter of 80 mm axially and supports axial forces against the housing. The design comprises a shaft ring, a housing ring and a guided ball set with a sheet steel cage. As the components are separate, the bearing rings can be fitted independently of one another.
Designs subject to predominantly axial forces use this type for single-sided shaft support. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering in bearing arrangements where no radial loads are permitted to act on this bearing. As the component can only be loaded axially, designers often combine this thrust bearing with separate radial bearings. The permissible operating temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees allows for use in demanding thermal environments.
This bearing is not angularly adjustable and is sensitive to misalignment between the shaft and the housing. It is essential that the contact surfaces of the connecting parts are exactly at right angles to ensure that the rolling elements bear the load evenly. The scope of supply includes the axial deep-groove ball bearing without a shim, which is why flat housing surfaces are required. Manufacture to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 defines precise dimensions for the outer diameter of 140 mm and the overall width of 44 mm.
This roller bearing is designed to support only axial loads acting on the shaft from a single direction. The bearing must not be subjected to radial loads, as the raceways of the flat discs are not designed to accommodate them. For combined loads, it is recommended to use a separate bearing arrangement with an additional radial bearing.
The main dimensions are 80 mm internal diameter (bore), 140 mm external diameter and 44 mm axial height. The shaft disc fits onto the shaft with a tight fit, whilst the housing disc has a slightly larger bore to prevent contact with the rotating shaft during operation.
No, the 51316 series has flat discs and is not angle-adjustable. The bearing does not automatically compensate for misalignment or shaft deflection. Mounting surfaces on the shaft and housing must be machined exactly at right angles to the axis of rotation to prevent edge stresses and premature wear on the rolling elements.
The bearing, made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and featuring a sheet steel cage, is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. A lubricant must be selected for operation whose thermal operating limits cover this range and which is suitable for axial ball movement.
The single-direction axial deep-groove ball bearing is supplied comprising a shaft washer, a housing washer and the ball set in a sheet steel cage. Washers for compensating for misalignment are not included in the scope of supply, as the component is mounted directly onto flat mating surfaces.
The bearing complies with the standard tolerance of Class P0 or PN, which is comparable to ABEC 1. This standard precision fully meets the requirements of general mechanical and plant engineering in terms of dimensional, geometric and running accuracy for axial shaft guides.
