The FAG 51228 axial deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 140 × 200 × 46 mm, supports pure axial loads from a single direction.
The 51228 axial deep-groove ball bearing is designed for the precise guidance of shafts under unilateral axial loading. The design, comprising a shaft ring, a housing ring and a ball-guided sheet steel cage, can be dismantled, which simplifies the installation of the components. Manufactured from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6 in tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, this version is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees.
This bearing is primarily used in general mechanical engineering where pure compressive forces parallel to the axis of rotation need to be absorbed. Typical applications include vertical shaft mountings and bearing arrangements with a single-sided guiding force. As the design is single-acting, the bearing specifically absorbs axial forces from one direction. This bearing type is not intended for radial loads and must be supplemented with radial bearings when subjected to combined loads.
As this model is not angularly adjustable, the design requires contact surfaces that are flat and aligned at right angles to the shaft axis. Misalignments cannot be compensated for without shims and may lead to uneven edge loads. In addition, care must be taken to ensure the rings are correctly positioned: the shaft ring with a 140 mm bore is mounted on the shaft, whilst the housing ring with an outer diameter of 200 mm rests against the housing.
This roller bearing has an inside diameter of 140 mm at the shaft flange, an outside diameter of 200 mm at the housing flange, and a height of 46 mm.
No, an axial deep-groove ball bearing is designed exclusively to support purely axial forces. Radial forces must be supported by separate radial bearings, such as deep-groove ball bearings or cylindrical roller bearings, mounted on the same shaft.
Single-direction means that the bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction. The shaft ring transmits the force via the rolling elements to the housing ring. For loads in both directions, double-direction designs or a second bearing location are required.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees. This is based on the thermal properties of the standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and the steel sheet cage it contains.
The scope of supply includes the axial deep-groove ball bearing without washers. As the bearing is not angle-adjustable, the mating parts in the housing and on the shaft must be manufactured so that they are precisely aligned and at right angles to one another.
