The SKF 53220 single-direction axial deep groove ball bearing with a 100 mm bore accommodates axial forces in one direction.
The 53220 axial deep-groove ball bearing is a separable rolling bearing designed for pure axial loads in one direction. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6), this bearing consists of a shaft ring, a housing ring with a spherical raceway, and a guided set of balls in a sheet steel cage. With a bore diameter of 100 mm, an outside diameter of 150 mm and a height of 40.9 mm, the bearing provides axial support for rotating shafts. It is manufactured to the Normal tolerance class (P0/PN or ABEC 1) for industrial applications.
This axial bearing is designed for applications where axial forces must be supported in one direction and no radial forces act on the bearing assembly. Typical applications include vertical shaft arrangements and pure axial guidance. The fact that the shaft and housing washers can be separated facilitates the assembly of the individual components within the housing. As the rolling bearing is designed for a temperature range of –30 to +150 °C, it is suitable for thermally demanding operating environments in mechanical engineering.
The housing washer in this design has a hollow spherical outer surface. When used in conjunction with a spherical shim, which must be procured separately, the 53220 axial deep groove ball bearing compensates for angular misalignment between the housing and the shaft caused by manufacturing or assembly. The scope of supply includes only the bearing without the shim. If there is no flat, perpendicular contact surface in the housing, the shim helps to prevent impermissible edge pressures. The dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly during operation.
As a single-direction axial bearing, this design absorbs axial forces along the shaft axis in one direction. It features a spherical housing washer and is made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). For assembly, the unit can be dismantled into the shaft ring, housing ring and cage assembly.
The dimensions are exactly 100 mm internal diameter (bore), 150 mm external diameter and 40.9 mm overall width or installation height. These dimensions determine the axial installation space as well as the precise fit on the cylindrical shaft and within the surrounding housing bore.
An additional spherical washer is required if angular misalignment or alignment deviations between the shaft and the housing mounting surface are to be compensated for. The bearing is fitted with a spherical housing washer as standard, but is supplied here without a washer. If required, this washer must be supplied separately to match the bearing.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +150 °C. The roller bearing steel used, as well as the integrated sheet steel cage, maintain stable dimensional accuracy within this range. When designing the bearing arrangement, care must be taken to select a lubricant whose thermal suitability fully covers this operating range.
The sheet steel cage keeps the balls at a uniform distance apart and prevents them from coming into contact with one another during operation. This ensures low-friction and smooth running. Furthermore, the metal cage is resistant to common lubricants and the permissible operating temperatures.
This designation refers to the standard tolerance for rolling bearings. It specifies the permissible limit deviations for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy of the bearing rings. Bearings in this accuracy class are suitable for the vast majority of common industrial applications and mechanical engineering designs.
