Axial angular contact ball bearing 234420 -M-SP with a 100 mm bore, 150 mm outer diameter and 60 mm width for double-sided axial load support.
The 234420 -M-SP axial angular contact ball bearing is a double-acting rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel 100Cr6. Thanks to its steep contact angle of 60 degrees, this open bearing accommodates axial forces from both directions. This FAG roller bearing features a brass cage and is fitted with practical mounting holes. With an operating temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees, this precision bearing is suitable for demanding shaft and spindle mountings in industrial environments.
This rolling bearing is used wherever shafts need to be precisely supported against axial displacement from both sides. Typical applications include ball screws, machine tool spindles and heavily loaded bearing arrangements in general mechanical engineering. The 60-degree contact angle gives the assembly high axial rigidity. As this is an open bearing without sealing washers, installation requires a protected housing and controlled external lubrication.
Tolerance class SP denotes a design with reduced dimensional and running tolerances, which contributes to high concentricity. The solid brass cage guides the rolling elements stably and is suitable for thermal conditions between –30 and +150 degrees. During assembly, the existing mounting holes aid positioning. Precise adherence to the mounting dimensions of 100 mm shaft diameter and 150 mm housing diameter ensures a stress-free fit within the housing.
The dimensions are 100 mm bore diameter, 150 mm outer diameter and 60 mm width. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, this version features mounting holes for installation. These dimensions must be taken into account when designing the connecting structure between the shaft and the housing.
Classification in tolerance class SP indicates tighter tolerances with regard to dimensional and running accuracy. Compared with standard bearings, this design enables very precise guidance of rotating machine components. This is particularly relevant in machine tools and spindle drives in order to achieve high repeatability during operation.
A contact angle of 60 degrees causes the line of action to deflect sharply in the axial direction. As a result, the bearing primarily supports axial loads and provides high rigidity against displacement. The bidirectional load-bearing capability also allows alternating axial forces to be accommodated by a single bearing element.
As an open-type bearing, this bearing does not have any factory-fitted sealing rings. This design allows for the free choice of lubricant via a housing or recirculating lubrication system. From a design perspective, care must be taken to ensure that external housing seals protect the raceways from the ingress of contaminants and moisture.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees. Within this range, the brass cage retains its dimensional stability and mechanical strength. To ensure reliable operation, it is important that the grease or lubricating oil used is also specified for the selected operating temperatures.
‘Double-acting’ means that the bearing can accommodate axial forces in both directions along the shaft axis. In many designs, it therefore replaces the arrangement of two separate single-acting axial bearings placed opposite each other. This reduces the space required in the axial direction and simplifies the design of the bearing seats.
