The FAG 7218 -B-XL-TVP-UA angular contact ball bearing, with a 90 mm bore and a 40-degree contact angle, accommodates combined radial and axial loads.
The 7218 -B-XL-TVP-UA angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with dimensions of 90 x 160 x 30 mm. The design features a contact angle of 40 degrees and transmits axial forces specifically in one direction. As an open bearing, this model operates without integrated sealing washers in oil- or grease-lubricated systems. A guided polyamide cage keeps the rolling elements spaced apart and ensures smooth running within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The design is suitable for bearing locations where high radial forces are combined with axial forces acting from one side. Typical applications include rotating shafts that, in addition to radial loads, also accommodate defined axial guiding forces. The model is designed for installation in pairs. When mounted in an O or X arrangement, the bearing set has minimal axial play. This enables the creation of shaft guides that precisely support varying axial loads whilst simultaneously providing radial support.
The contact angle of 40 degrees gives the bearing a high axial load-carrying capacity in one load direction. A second, oppositely mounted bearing is required to accommodate forces on both sides. The UA designation indicates universal suitability for installation in sets. With its lightweight polyamide cage, the assembly is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Before installation, the external seal of the bearing housing must be checked, as the open design requires protection against foreign particles entering the housing.
Single-row angular contact ball bearings of this design can withstand combined loads consisting of radial and unilateral axial forces. Thanks to the angularly arranged raceways with a 40-degree contact angle, the rolling bearing effectively supports axial forces. A lightweight polyamide cage guides the rolling elements and keeps friction and noise to a minimum.
The model has an internal diameter of 90 mm, an external diameter of 160 mm and a width of 30 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. These standardised key dimensions facilitate precise fitting into housings and onto shafts.
The abbreviation UA indicates a universal bearing designed for installation in pairs. When two of these bearings are fitted in an O or X configuration, the bearing set has a small amount of axial clearance by design. This makes installation easier, as there is no need to manually adjust the bearing clearance within the set.
As an open roller bearing, this variant is used in designs where external seals in the housing cover or shaft seals seal off the lubricant chamber. Open bearings allow for unimpeded lubricant exchange in oil or centralised lubrication systems and result in very low friction losses during operation.
With its polyamide cage, the bearing is designed for operating temperatures between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. The 100Cr6 material offers reliable dimensional stability within this range. At sustained temperatures above 120 degrees Celsius, the plastic cage reaches its thermal limits.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN (equivalent to ABEC 1). This dimensional and running accuracy is designed for standard shaft and housing fits in mechanical engineering and ensures precise concentricity during operation.
