The single-row FAG angular contact ball bearing 7318 -B-MP, with a brass cage and dimensions of 90 × 190 × 43 mm, can withstand high radial and unilateral axial loads.
The FAG 7318 -B-MP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 90 mm, an outside diameter of 190 mm and a width of 43 mm, this design is specifically suited to bearing arrangements subject to combined loads. Thanks to its contact angle of 40 degrees, the open bearing accommodates not only radial forces but also significant axial loads in one direction. Maintenance engineers and designers use it when precise guidance and thermal resistance up to 150 degrees are required.
This single-row bearing is primarily suitable for shaft mountings where radial forces and high unilateral axial loads occur simultaneously. Typical applications can be found in general mechanical engineering as well as in gearboxes and drive systems. Due to its design, the 40-degree contact angle reliably absorbs axial forces. As single-row angular contact ball bearings only absorb axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in pairs or in conjunction with a counter-bearing during operation.
The suffix ‘MP’ denotes a solid brass cage, which is characterised by high strength and favourable sliding properties. The cage also withstands vibrations and demanding operating conditions. Combined with a temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees and normal radial clearance, the bearing is suitable for thermally stressed assemblies. As this is an open design without an integrated seal, users can tailor the lubricant and external housing seal precisely to the specific operating environment.
With an internal diameter of 90 mm, an external diameter of 190 mm and a width of 43 mm, the bearing has standardised main dimensions. This geometry enables it to be fitted precisely into suitable bearing housings and onto cylindrical shaft seats.
The contact angle describes the inclination of the line of action of the force between the inner and outer rings relative to the radial plane. An angle of 40 degrees enables the rolling bearing to accommodate not only radial forces but also significant axial loads in a defined direction.
As an open component, this version does not feature any cover plates or sealing washers integrated by the manufacturer. For operation, an external housing seal to protect against dirt and moisture is required, as well as specific lubrication using a suitable rolling-bearing grease or oil.
A solid brass cage offers high mechanical strength and performs well under severe vibrations or rapidly changing speeds. Furthermore, brass has good emergency running properties and remains stable up to an operating temperature of +150 degrees.
Supplied ex-works with standard radial bearing clearance, the actual operating clearance is only established upon installation. In the case of single-row angular contact ball bearings, this is achieved by axial alignment against a second bearing or a suitable shaft shoulder.
Manufactured to standard tolerance P0 (equivalent to PN or ABEC 1), the component meets the standard accuracy requirements for industrial machinery. This tolerance class specifies dimensional, geometric and concentricity accuracy for standardised mounting conditions.
