The SKF 7318 BEP angular contact ball bearing, measuring 90 × 190 × 43 mm, offers a robust solution for combined radial and axial loads.
This single-row angular contact ball bearing, type 7318 BEP, accommodates both radial and single-direction axial loads simultaneously. The design is from SKF and is made from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6). Thanks to its open design without seals, the component is suitable for applications with external sealing and lubrication. With a bore of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 190 mm and a width of 43 mm, the geometry corresponds to the dimensions of this series.
This design is used for shaft mountings where axial forces in one direction act in conjunction with radial forces. As single-row angular contact ball bearings, by design, can only accommodate axial loads on one side, they are frequently mounted in pairs opposite a second bearing. Applications can be found in general mechanical and plant engineering with an externally supplied lubricant system. The open design allows for direct lubrication with lubricating oil or grease from the surrounding housing.
The contact angle of 40 degrees defines the force transmission between the inner and outer rings at an angle to the radial plane. This angle is designed to specifically accommodate unidirectional axial forces. The integrated polyamide cage guides the rolling elements evenly and contributes to low noise levels. The permissible temperature range is between –20 and +120 degrees. The bearing is manufactured to standard tolerances (P0/PN or ABEC 1) and has a standard radial clearance.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 190 mm and a width of 43 mm. The outer ring has neither a groove nor a flange, which means the component can be fitted flush into cylindrical housing bores.
The force is transmitted from the balls to the raceways along a line of action that is inclined at an angle of 40 degrees to the radial plane. This design is intended to specifically absorb axial forces in one direction in combination with radial loads.
Polyamide cages are characterised by their low weight, elastic properties and quiet operation. The material is designed for operation in a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees and guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration.
As the bearing is designed without seals, lubrication is provided by the surrounding structure. It can be operated using either oil or grease. An external housing seal protects the rolling elements and raceways from the ingress of dirt.
A single single-row angular contact ball bearing supports axial loads in one direction only. If alternating or bidirectional axial forces occur, a second bearing is fitted in a mirror-image configuration in an O or X arrangement on the shaft to counteract the opposing forces.
