The FAG 7317 -B-XL-TVP angular contact ball bearing, with its 40-degree contact angle, can accommodate high radial forces and unilateral axial loads with a shaft diameter of 85 mm.
The 7317 -B-XL-TVP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from conventional standard bearing steel (100Cr6). Thanks to the specific arrangement of the raceways in relation to one another, this unit effectively transfers combined loads. The design is an open bearing, allowing lubricants such as oil or grease to reach the contact surfaces of the rolling elements unhindered. With dimensions of 85 mm inner diameter and 180 mm outer diameter, and a width of 41 mm, the design complies with the standard tolerance P0/PN (ABEC 1).
This bearing is primarily used where both radial forces and significant axial loads in one direction act on the shaft simultaneously. As a single angular contact ball bearing can, by design, only accommodate axial forces from one side, in practice it is often paired with a second rolling bearing or fitted as a combined unit. Typical applications include shaft mountings where stable guidance under combined loads is required.
The designation ‘B’ stands for the 40-degree contact angle, which supports a particularly high axial load capacity. At the same time, the integrated polyamide cage (TVP) guides the ball race quietly and with flexibility. When designing the bearing installation, it is advisable to observe the permissible temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees, as the plastic cage limits this operating range. As the unit is of an open design, the surrounding housing structure must prevent the ingress of dirt particles.
The main dimensions of the bearing are exactly 85 mm bore diameter, 180 mm outer diameter and a width of 41 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in shape and has neither a flange nor a groove, which allows for direct installation in standardised housing bores.
The contact angle describes the line along which the contact forces are transmitted from one raceway to the other via the ball. An angle of 40 degrees gives the angular contact ball bearing a high load-carrying capacity against axial forces acting on the shaft in one direction.
The TVP cage is made of polyamide and guides the rolling elements to reduce friction. This cage design is characterised by its low weight and smooth running characteristics, and is designed for continuous operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees.
As this bearing is supplied without integrated grinding or cover discs, the bearing housing requires a lubricant supply via the housing. Depending on the speed and operating conditions, this is achieved using a suitable rolling-element bearing grease or continuous oil circulation lubrication, whilst external seals retain the lubricant within the housing.
This rolling bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance. However, in the case of single-row angular contact ball bearings, the operating clearance is only established during installation through axial contact with a mating bearing; for this reason, the preload setting should be carefully adjusted to the operating conditions during assembly.
The component complies with standard tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the international ABEC 1 classification. This manufacturing accuracy fully meets the standard requirements of general mechanical engineering as well as those for standardised shaft and housing fits.
