The FAG 7316 -B-MP-UA angular contact ball bearing, with dimensions of 80x170x39 mm, supports high radial loads as well as unilateral axial loads with a solid brass cage.
The FAG 7316 -B-MP-UA angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for demanding industrial applications involving combined loads. With a bore of 80 mm, an outside diameter of 170 mm and a width of 39 mm, the component supports shafts under high loads. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), the open bearing operates within a temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The design is intended to accommodate axial forces acting on the shaft in one direction.
This design is used in bearing arrangements where high radial forces and unidirectional axial forces act simultaneously. Thanks to the 40-degree contact angle, the bearing accommodates significant axial forces in one direction whilst simultaneously supporting radial loads. As angular contact ball bearings can only accommodate axial forces from one side, they are often fitted in pairs opposite a second bearing. The open design, without integrated sealing washers, allows for flexible lubrication via the surrounding housing system using oil or grease.
The designation UA stands for a universal design, which is prepared for installation in sets. When arranged in pairs in an O- or X-shape, a small amount of axial clearance is automatically created without the need to fit shims. The solid brass cage (MP) guides the balls reliably even under vibration or thermal stress. The bearing complies with the standard tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) and has standard radial clearance. When designing the assembly, ensure that the bearing housing is effectively sealed against dirt and moisture.
The roller bearing has an inner diameter of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 170 mm and a width of 39 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. The bearing is made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and complies with the standardised tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1 for standard applications in mechanical engineering.
The code is divided into three technical characteristics. The ‘B’ denotes a contact angle of 40 degrees for high axial loads. ‘MP’ indicates a guided solid brass cage. The abbreviation ‘UA’ indicates suitability for installation in pairs, whereby a defined small amount of axial clearance is achieved in an O or X configuration.
As the bearing is supplied from the factory without seals, you must ensure the lubricant supply via the installation environment. Depending on the application, industrial oils or roller bearing greases are suitable. To prevent the ingress of dirt particles or the leakage of lubricant, the bearing housing requires external sealing elements such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals on the housing.
The angular contact ball bearing is designed for operating temperatures between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The 100Cr6 material and the robust brass cage retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. Select a lubricant suitable for the actual operating temperatures to maintain a stable lubricating film between the rolling elements and raceways.
A contact angle of 40 degrees gives the single-row angular contact ball bearing a high axial load-carrying capacity in one direction. The lines of contact between the rolling elements and the raceways run at an angle to the radial plane. As a result, the component absorbs combined forces and transfers axial loads specifically via the rolling elements into the raceway.
Thanks to the UA universal design, you can position two bearings directly against each other. In the O arrangement, the contact lines point outwards, resulting in a wider support base and greater resistance to overturning. In the X arrangement, the lines of force converge inwards. In both mounting configurations, the specified low axial clearance is achieved without the need for reworking the spacer rings.
