The FAG 7308 -B-XL-TVP angular contact ball bearing (40x90x23 mm) is designed to withstand high radial and unilateral axial loads in mechanical engineering applications.
The 7308 -B-XL-TVP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6). Thanks to its inclined raceways, this bearing transmits radial forces as well as axial loads from one direction. It is manufactured to tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) as an open design without seals. With dimensions of 40 mm bore, 90 mm outside diameter and 23 mm width, the design is suitable for a wide range of shaft mountings subject to combined loads.
Design engineers primarily use this angular contact ball bearing for combined loads. As single-row designs can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, they are often fitted opposite a second bearing to provide a counter-support. Typical applications include bearing arrangements that must accommodate high axial forces whilst simultaneously withstanding radial loads. The temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees covers the usual conditions in continuous industrial operation. As an open design without a flange or groove, the component fits flexibly into cylindrical housing seats.
The 40-degree contact angle characterises the B version and helps to accommodate high axial forces. The abbreviation TVP stands for a polyamide cage, which guides the rolling elements with low friction. A polyamide cage reduces running noise compared to sheet steel versions, but requires the thermal limit of +120 degrees to be observed. The bearing has a standard radial clearance and requires a suitable lubricant supply via the housing system during operation.
The angular contact ball bearing has a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. These standardised dimensions facilitate the design of suitable housing seats and shaft shoulders.
The contact angle describes the inclination of the line of contact between the ball and the raceway relative to the radial plane. At an angle of 40 degrees, the rolling bearing absorbs significant axial forces in one direction. This geometry gives the bearing arrangement a high axial load-carrying capacity.
As this is an open design without sealing washers, the lubricant reaches the rolling elements directly. Depending on the design, lubrication is provided by oil or grease from the machine housing. External seals on the housing wall protect the interior from contamination.
The suffix ‘TVP’ indicates that the cage is made of polyamide. This material reduces the cage’s weight and helps to ensure quiet operation. The cage is designed for the specified operating range of -20 to +120 degrees.
Single-row angular contact ball bearings usually require a second bearing, arranged in a mirror-image configuration, to provide axial support during operation. Depending on the force distribution, designers choose an O-arrangement, an X-arrangement or, in the case of a unidirectional load, a tandem arrangement. This allows the required operating clearance to be precisely adjusted.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0, which corresponds to ABEC 1. It has standard radial bearing clearance. The final operating clearance is only established when the bearing is seated during installation in the machine housing.
