The SKF 7304 BEP single-row angular contact ball bearing, measuring 20 × 52 × 15 mm, is specifically designed to accommodate combined radial and axial loads thanks to its 40-degree contact angle.
The 7304 BEP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for combined loads in an axial direction. With a bore of 20 mm, an outside diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm, this open bearing offers compact dimensions for demanding designs. SKF manufactures the rings and rolling elements from conventional standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6). A dimensionally stable polyamide cage guides the balls with low friction between the raceways. Thanks to its standard radial clearance, the unit is suitable for standard applications with normal operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees Celsius.
This single-row roller bearing is used where radial forces act in conjunction with unidirectional axial forces. Thanks to its contact angle of 40 degrees, the 7304 BEP angular contact ball bearing specifically accommodates axial loads. Typical applications in general mechanical engineering include shaft mountings with a defined axial load direction. As this is an open design without an integrated seal, lubrication is provided by the surrounding system. If alternating axial forces occur, the bearing is usually combined in pairs with a second angular contact ball bearing mounted in the opposite direction.
The 40-degree contact angle gives the 7304 BEP angular contact ball bearing a defined axial load-carrying capacity in one direction. The integrated polyamide cage is characterised by its low weight and elastic guiding properties, which support the quiet running of the rolling elements. In accordance with tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), this design meets the precision requirements of general mechanical engineering. During installation, the permissible temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius must be observed, supplemented by an external housing seal and a lubricant supply tailored to requirements.
With an internal diameter of 20 mm, an external diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm, the bearing has standardised main dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a groove. These dimensions allow for a precise fit when installed in standardised housings and on corresponding shaft seats.
The suffixes describe specific design features: the letter B denotes a contact angle of 40 degrees for absorbing axial forces. The letter ‘E’ indicates a modified internal design. The symbol ‘P’ denotes the polyamide cage, which guides the rolling elements in a flexible and low-noise manner.
As a single-row bearing, this design accommodates both radial and axial forces in a single direction only. The contact angle of 40 degrees ensures that axial forces are transmitted obliquely across the rolling elements between the inner and outer rings. If alternating axial loads occur, you must arrange a second bearing in a mirror-image configuration to provide counter-support.
The open design without sealing washers allows for use in enclosed spaces that utilise centralised oil or grease lubrication. The lubricant flows unhindered to the raceways and rolling elements. Conversely, the open design requires external housing seals to prevent the ingress of dirt and the escape of lubricant.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. This operating range is largely determined by the thermal behaviour of the polyamide cage and the standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6. Within this temperature range, the cage retains its dimensional stability, ensuring that the balls are guided continuously during operation.
Manufactured to the standard tolerance P0 (equivalent to ABEC 1 or PN), this component meets the usual dimensional and concentricity tolerances required for general industrial and mechanical engineering applications. It is suitable for standard fits on shafts and in housings without any specific requirements for high precision.
