The FAG 7230 -B-MP-UA angular contact ball bearing, with dimensions of 150 × 270 × 45 mm and a contact angle of 40 degrees, is specifically designed to accommodate combined loads.
This single-row angular contact ball bearing 7230 -B-MP-UA transmits radial forces as well as unidirectional axial forces via angularly offset raceways. The manufacturer, FAG, produces this open bearing from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6) with standard radial clearance. Thanks to its solid brass cage, the rolling element guidance withstands high thermal stresses in the temperature range from –20 to +200 degrees. It is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 with a cylindrical bore.
Designs subject to simultaneous radial and axial forces require components with a steep contact angle. With its contact angle of 40 degrees, this rolling bearing absorbs high axial forces in one direction. Typical applications are found primarily in shaft mountings subject to high combined loads. As a single bearing only supports axial loads on one side, a mating bearing on the opposite side of the shaft is usually required, or it must be installed as a matched bearing set.
The designation ‘UA’ identifies this product as a universal bearing for installation in pairs. If you fit two bearings of this type directly next to each other in an O or X arrangement, a small amount of axial clearance is achieved without the need for shims. The suffix ‘B’ stands for the 40-degree contact angle, whilst ‘MP’ denotes the robust brass cage. As the bearing is of an open design, you must incorporate external sealing and lubrication into the housing design.
With an internal diameter of 150 mm, an external diameter of 270 mm and a width of 45 mm, the bearing complies with standardised dimensions. The outer ring has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which simplifies installation in cylindrical housing bores.
The contact angle describes the line of action along which the load is transferred from one raceway to the other. An angle of 40 degrees enables the controlled absorption of high axial forces in one direction, combined with radial load-bearing capacity. However, this design is unsuitable for purely radial loads without an axial force component.
The suffix ‘UA’ indicates universal compatibility for installation in pairs. When arranged in an O or X configuration, two units have a predefined, minimal residual axial clearance. They can therefore be fitted without the need for manual adjustment using spacer discs.
A solid brass cage is characterised by its strength, dimensional stability and favourable emergency running properties. It guides the balls with minimal vibration, even in the event of vibrations or rapid changes in speed. Furthermore, the material retains its shape permanently across the entire temperature range from -20 to +200 degrees.
For this non-sealed version, users should select a grease or lubricating oil suitable for the operating conditions. As the bearing does not have an integrated seal, the surrounding housing must be fitted with separate seals to prevent lubricant loss and the ingress of contaminants.
