The FAG 7224 -B-XL-TVP single-row angular contact ball bearing, measuring 120 × 215 × 40 mm, accommodates combined radial and unilateral axial loads at a contact angle of 40 degrees.
The 7224 -B-XL-TVP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing manufactured by FAG, designed for operating conditions involving simultaneously acting radial and single-direction axial forces. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), the bearing has a bore of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 40 mm. It has a standard radial clearance and a tolerance class of P0/PN (ABEC 1). As an open bearing, it can be flexibly integrated into oil- or grease-lubricated housings.
This single-row angular contact ball bearing is used where guided shaft mountings and the absorption of high axial forces from a single direction are required. The contact angle of 40 degrees directs the forces diagonally across the radial plane through the bearing. Such rolling bearings often operate in pairs or in combination with a second bearing to absorb alternating axial forces. Typical applications include bearing arrangements subject to combined radial and axial loads at operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees.
The suffix ‘TVP’ denotes a polyamide cage which guides the rolling elements and keeps the mass of the moving components low. As the bearing is designed without a seal, the surrounding housing structure provides protection against contamination. During assembly, the direction of action of the 40-degree contact angle must be observed to ensure that axial forces are absorbed via the load-bearing flange side. The cylindrical outer ring sits flush in the bearing seat without a flange or circumferential groove.
With a contact angle of 40 degrees, indicated by the suffix ‘B’, this bearing enables the targeted transmission of high unilateral axial forces in combination with radial forces. To ensure that the bearing can accommodate these loads correctly, the main axial load must always act on the inner ring in the direction of the load-bearing shoulder.
With a bore of 120 mm, the bearing has an outer diameter of 215 mm and a total width of 40 mm. The cylindrical outer ring is designed without a flange or groove, allowing it to be fitted smoothly into standardised housing bores. The dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The suffix ‘TVP’ denotes a polyamide cage. This material ensures low-noise guidance of the rolling elements and reduces vibrations during operation. The permissible temperature range for the entire component with this polyamide cage is between -20 and +120 degrees.
Designed without integrated sealing or cover washers, this open design is suitable for assemblies in which the lubricant circulates within the machine housing or where a housing seal is fitted. Operators are free to choose between lubricating oil or grease and can tailor the lubricant directly to the environmental requirements.
Manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance, the actual operating clearance of a single-row angular contact ball bearing is only established once it is installed, via the axial alignment against a second rolling bearing. Design engineers precisely adjust the preload or axial clearance during assembly by means of suitable shaft and housing seats.
The specified operating temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees. This range is largely determined by the material of the polyamide cage and the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. To ensure correct operation within this range, the selected lubricant must also be suited to the temperatures encountered at the bearing location.
