The FAG 7224 -B-MP-UA angular contact ball bearing, with a 120 mm bore and a 40° contact angle, offers a robust solution for combined radial and axial loads.
The 7224 -B-MP-UA angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing from FAG, manufactured from standard bearing steel 100Cr6. Thanks to the 40-degree contact angle, the design can accommodate not only radial forces but also significant axial loads in one direction. The brass cage ensures stable guidance of the rolling elements under demanding operating conditions. With main dimensions of 120 mm inner diameter, 215 mm outer diameter and 40 mm width, this design is suitable for bearing arrangements subject to combined radial and axial loads.
This bearing is particularly useful when high radial forces and single-sided axial forces occur simultaneously. Typical applications are found in industrial bearing arrangements subject to demanding operating conditions. As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, lubrication is provided directly via the housing assembly. A seal must be provided on site to protect against dirt and moisture. The operating temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees also allows for use in bearing locations subject to thermal stress.
The designation provides key information on how the bearing functions: the abbreviation B stands for the 40-degree contact angle, which enables a high axial load-carrying capacity in one direction. MP denotes the solid brass cage, whilst UA indicates a universal design. This allows the angular contact ball bearings to be mounted in pairs in an O or X arrangement, whereby a small amount of axial play is established in these configurations. This universal pairing capability simplifies stockholding, as no specially pre-paired bearing sets are required.
This single-row bearing has a 120 mm bore, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 40 mm. A contact angle of 40 degrees enables it to accommodate high axial loads in one direction. It also features a dimensionally stable brass cage and is made from tried-and-tested 100Cr6 roller bearing steel.
The suffix ‘UA’ denotes a universal bearing for installation in sets. When fitted in pairs in an X or O configuration, a small amount of axial clearance is automatically established. This simplifies the installation of bearing sets, as the bearings can be combined without the need for shims or manual adjustment.
Open roller bearings are supplied ex-works without contact seals or cover plates. This design allows for a direct supply of lubricant via oil or grease circulation systems within the machine housing. At the same time, the absence of abrasive sealing lips reduces frictional resistance. A clean installation environment and external seals protect the bearing from contamination.
The solid brass cage, designated by the suffix MP, is characterised by high strength and thermal resistance. It guides the rolling elements stably even during rapid changes in speed. Brass is a highly stable material and is suitable for use in a temperature range up to +150 degrees.
With this open design, the choice of lubricant depends on the specific installation conditions. Depending on the speed, load and operating conditions, either housing oil lubrication or a grease suitable for roller bearing steel is used. At operating temperatures up to +150 degrees, lubricants approved for this range must be selected.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN (comparable to ABEC 1). This standard tolerance provides the required dimensional and running accuracy for conventional industrial applications. Manufacture to this class ensures a defined fit on shafts and in housing bores in accordance with standard fit specifications.
