The FAG 7221 -B-MP-UA angular contact ball bearing, with dimensions of 105 × 190 × 36 mm, offers a universally adjustable bearing solution for combined radial and axial loads.
This single-row angular contact ball bearing 7221 -B-MP-UA from FAG is manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel and is designed for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to its contact angle of 40 degrees, the bearing accommodates single-direction axial forces together with radial loads. The open design allows for direct lubrication via the surrounding system, whilst the integrated solid brass cage ensures precise guidance of the rolling elements.
This bearing unit is primarily used in powertrains, gearboxes and heavy industrial machinery where significant axial forces occur in one direction. Thanks to the 40-degree contact angle, the component effectively supports axial forces. In many designs, maintenance engineers fit the bearings in pairs in an O or X configuration to accommodate axial forces from both directions or to specifically increase the stiffness of the entire shaft bearing arrangement.
The UA designation identifies this rolling bearing as a universal design for installation in sets. When mounted in pairs in an O or X arrangement, a defined, low axial clearance is established by design, which significantly simplifies the alignment process during installation. The solid brass cage guides the balls reliably, even at varying speeds. It remains dimensionally stable and durable across the entire operating range from -20 to +150 degrees.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 105 mm, an outer diameter of 190 mm and a width of 36 mm. It is a single-row angular contact ball bearing with standard geometry, the outer ring of which has no flange or circumferential groove.
The designation ‘UA’ indicates a universal bearing designed for installation in pairs. If two of these bearings are fitted in an O or X configuration, a defined, minimal axial clearance is automatically achieved. This eliminates the need for time-consuming fitting or the use of spacer rings.
A brass cage is characterised by high strength and good run-on properties. It keeps the rolling elements in the correct track even in the event of vibrations or rapid changes in speed, and performs particularly well under demanding thermal conditions within the permissible temperature range up to +150 degrees.
The 40-degree contact angle determines the force transmission between the inner and outer rings. Compared with bearings with a smaller angle, the 40-degree geometry allows significantly higher axial forces to be accommodated in one direction, combined with a robust radial load-carrying capacity.
As the bearing is of an open design and does not come with any integrated seals as standard, you should integrate it directly into your machine’s existing lubrication system. The component can be operated flexibly with either grease or lubricating oil, but requires the bearing housing to be sealed externally to prevent the ingress of dirt.
The angular contact ball bearing complies with standard tolerance class P0 (also known as standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1). This classification defines dimensional and concentricity accuracy and meets the requirements of most standard applications in general mechanical engineering.
