The FAG 7220 -B-MP-UO angular contact ball bearing (100x180x34 mm) can accommodate high radial loads as well as unilateral axial loads when fitted without clearance.
The 7220 -B-MP-UO angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from bearing steel (100Cr6) for demanding industrial applications. The design features a bore of 100 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm and a width of 34 mm. Thanks to the raceways that are offset at an angle to one another, this design is particularly suitable for combined loads where, in addition to radial forces, high axial forces act simultaneously on the shaft in one direction.
This bearing is primarily used where precise shaft guidance and high load-carrying capacities are required under combined loads. As a single angular contact ball bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, users typically fit this type in pairs, with one bearing facing the other. The solid brass cage ensures stable guidance of the rolling elements even under dynamic operating conditions.
The suffix ‘UO’ denotes a universal design for installation in pairs. When two of these bearings are assembled in an O or X configuration, the bearing assembly is immediately free of play without the need for manual fitting of shims. Together with the increased contact angle of 40 degrees (designation B), this design enables high axial rigidity. As an open component without an integrated seal, the bearing can be integrated directly into existing oil or grease lubrication circuits.
With an internal diameter of 100 mm, an external diameter of 180 mm and a width of 34 mm, this component complies with the standardised dimensions of the 7220 series. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.
The designation ‘UO’ indicates universal single bearings that are designed to be fitted in pairs. When arranged in an O or X configuration, this results in a play-free bearing set without the need for manual adjustment of the bearing clearance.
An increased contact angle of 40 degrees (designation B) enables the bearing to withstand high unilateral axial forces. The force is transmitted obliquely across the balls, which provides increased axial load-carrying capacity compared with bearings with a smaller contact angle.
The solid brass cage, designated by the abbreviation MP, is guided along the rolling elements. Brass is characterised by high mechanical strength and durability under demanding lubrication conditions or subject to severe vibrations.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The components are made of heat-treated 100Cr6 roller bearing steel. To ensure reliable operation, a lubricant must be selected that is suitable for these operating temperatures.
As this model does not have integrated sealing washers, the bearing housing must be sealed by the housing design. Lubrication is provided by grease or lubricating oil applied directly via the housing to prevent the ingress of dirt.
