The FAG 7218 -B-MP-UO angular contact ball bearing (90x160x30 mm) accommodates combined radial and axial loads and enables play-free bearing pairs.
The FAG 7218 -B-MP-UO from FAG is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a 90 mm bore, 160 mm outside diameter and 30 mm width. Single-row angular contact ball bearings transmit combined loads in which radial forces and single-sided axial forces occur simultaneously. Thanks to the open design without seals, the bearing can be integrated directly into oil- or grease-lubricated housings. The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 with standard radial clearance.
The rolling bearing is designed for rotating shafts that must accommodate high radial forces and simultaneously directed axial forces. Such bearing arrangements are found in combined load conditions in general mechanical and plant engineering. As a single-row angular contact ball bearing, by design, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, the shaft always requires a suitable mating bearing or installation in pairs.
The nominal contact angle of 40 degrees gives the bearing arrangement a high axial load-carrying capacity in one direction. The designation UO stands for a universally adjustable single bearing which, when mounted in pairs in an O or X arrangement, remains free of play without the need for additional adapter rings. The guided brass cage ensures low-vibration operation of the rolling elements. As the bearing is open at both ends, the surrounding structure must protect against the ingress of dirt.
This single-row roller bearing from FAG has a contact angle of 40 degrees and a brass cage. It is made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and is designed as a universal bearing for installation in pairs, enabling play-free mountings in O or X configurations.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 90 mm, an outside diameter of 160 mm and a width of 30 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a retaining groove.
The diagonally arranged raceways transmit forces at a defined angle of 40 degrees. This geometry enables the bearing to accommodate high axial forces in one direction whilst simultaneously withstanding radial loads, and increases the axial stiffness of the entire bearing assembly.
The designation ‘UO’ identifies the component as a universal bearing. When two of these bearings are fitted in pairs in an X or O configuration, the bearing assembly self-aligns without any play, without the need for adapter rings or additional shims.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees. As this is an open design without sealing washers, the actual operating limit depends largely on the temperature resistance of the externally supplied lubricant.
The brass cage guides the rolling elements precisely along their raceway. Compared with simple cage designs, brass retains its dimensional stability even at higher operating temperatures and is characterised by favourable emergency running and damping behaviour under dynamic loads.
