The single-row angular contact ball bearing 7217 -B-XL-TVP from FAG Wälzlager, measuring 85 × 150 × 28 mm, accommodates combined radial and single-direction axial loads.
The 7217 -B-XL-TVP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. The inner and outer rings have offset raceways, ensuring that force transmission takes place at a defined contact angle. As an open bearing, this design has no integrated seals. Consequently, the lubricant from the surrounding structure reaches the rolling elements directly.
This bearing is used in shaft mountings where radial forces and significant axial forces in one direction occur simultaneously. Typical applications include designs subject to high combined loads in general mechanical engineering. As a single single-row angular contact ball bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, in practice it is often paired with a second bearing. The cylindrical outer ring without a flange allows for flush mounting in suitable housing bores.
The nominal contact angle of 40 degrees gives the rolling bearing a high axial load-carrying capacity in the direction of action. The integrated polyamide cage (TVP) guides the balls evenly and is characterised by its low weight, which reduces friction during operation. This design is rated for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees. When designing the bearing mounting, it is important to ensure that open designs are protected against the ingress of dirt and are lubricated via the housing.
This roller bearing has an inner diameter (bore) of 85 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.
The contact angle describes the inclination of the line connecting the points of contact between the ball and the raceways relative to the radial plane. An angle of 40 degrees is designed to accommodate high axial forces in a defined direction, together with radial loads.
The suffix ‘TVP’ denotes a polyamide cage. This material ensures flexible ball guidance, operates quietly and, due to the low weight of the material, reduces the inertial forces within the bearing unit.
As the open design does not have any integrated sealing washers, it is not factory-filled with grease. Lubrication is provided by the bearing housing design, using either grease or lubricating oil, tailored to the operating temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees.
This specification refers to the standard tolerance for rolling bearings. It defines the permissible dimensional, form and running deviations for the bore, the outer diameter and the axial run-out, and meets the usual requirements in general mechanical engineering.
This is the standard design for single-bearing arrangements. To accommodate axial forces acting in both directions, two angular contact ball bearings are mounted opposite each other – for example, in an O or X configuration – to guide the shaft axially.
