The 7213 -B-XL-TVP angular contact ball bearing, measuring 65 × 120 × 23 mm, accommodates combined radial and single-direction axial loads at high speeds.
The 7213 -B-XL-TVP angular contact ball bearing from FAG Wälzlager is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a bore of 65 mm, an outer diameter of 120 mm and a width of 23 mm. Thanks to the asymmetrical shoulder design of the raceways, this design transmits high axial forces in one direction as well as radial loads. As an open bearing without an integrated seal, this design is intended for use in lubricated housings. It is suitable for use over a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
This single-row bearing is primarily installed where shafts must withstand not only radial loads but also unidirectional axial forces. Typical applications can be found in general mechanical engineering, in gearboxes, pumps or compressors. As a single angular contact ball bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, it is usually fitted in a paired arrangement with a second rolling bearing. The version in tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 meets the standard precision requirements for industrial mass production and spare parts.
The suffixes define key design features of this bearing. The designation ‘B’ stands for a contact angle of 40 degrees, which gives the rolling bearing an increased axial load capacity compared to bearings with a smaller angle. The polyamide cage (TVP) guides the rolling elements quietly and is characterised by its low weight. As the bearing is supplied with standard radial clearance and has an outer ring without a flange, it can be fitted with a positive fit into cylindrical housing bores.
The roller bearing has an inside diameter of 65 mm, an outside diameter of 120 mm and a width of 23 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a groove nor a flange, which allows it to be fitted flush with the corresponding housing bores.
The contact angle describes the line along which the contact forces between the ball and the raceway act. An angle of 40 degrees, indicated by the suffix B, is designed to specifically accommodate axial forces in one direction. The steeper the contact angle, the higher the axial loads the bearing can accommodate in relation to the radial load.
The designation TVP stands for a polyamide cage. This material reduces the inertial forces of the rotating rolling elements and contributes to low-vibration and quiet operation. The cage is designed for the bearing’s permissible temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees and is compatible with standard mineral oil-based greases and lubricating oils.
As an open variant, the bearing has no integrated seals or cover plates. It is typically used in enclosed gearboxes or housings where the lubricant is supplied via an external oil bath or a centralised lubrication system. The absence of sealing lips minimises frictional resistance and facilitates unimpeded lubricant circulation within the rolling element chamber.
As a single bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, the design usually requires a mating bearing on the shaft. Common configurations when pairing two single bearings include the O arrangement for greater tilting stiffness, the X arrangement for tolerance compensation, or the tandem arrangement for the even distribution of high unilateral axial forces.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This corresponds to the standard tolerances for general applications in mechanical engineering. This level of precision ensures dimensional interchangeability and, when fitted correctly, contributes to defined running characteristics in conjunction with the shaft and housing.
