The FAG 7208 -B-XL-TVP-UO angular contact ball bearing, measuring 40 x 80 x 18 mm and with a contact angle of 40 degrees, provides a zero-backlash pairing for combined loads.
The 7208 -B-XL-TVP-UO angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing manufactured by FAG Wälzlager from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel. Thanks to the integrated contact angle of 40 degrees, this design accommodates not only radial forces but, above all, single-sided axial forces. The component features an outer ring without a flange or groove, as well as standard radial clearance. As this is an open bearing without sealing elements, lubrication is provided flexibly via the surrounding structure.
This rolling bearing is primarily suitable for shaft mountings where axial and radial forces act simultaneously. It is used in designs where defined guiding forces must be accommodated in one direction. As a single angular contact ball bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, in many designs a mirror-image counter-bearing is fitted to provide guidance in the opposite direction. The open design allows for use in oil- or grease-lubricated housings.
The suffixes provide information about the functional properties of the bearing. The abbreviation UO denotes a universally compatible single bearing intended for installation in pairs. Arranging two of these bearings in an O or X configuration creates a play-free bearing set without the need for additional shims. The letter B denotes the 40-degree contact angle, whilst TVP stands for a dimensionally stable polyamide cage. The bearing can be used within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees.
This single-row angular contact ball bearing from FAG has a contact angle of 40 degrees and is designed to handle combined radial and single-direction axial loads. This version features a polyamide cage, standard radial clearance and complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. The open component is made of 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel and can be arranged in pairs.
The main dimensions are 40 mm internal diameter (bore), 80 mm external diameter and 18 mm width. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a groove. Designers and maintenance engineers use these mounting dimensions to check in advance that there is sufficient installation space within the machine housing and on the shaft.
The contact angle of 40 degrees, indicated by the suffix ‘B’, causes the line of action of the transmitted forces to pass diagonally through the bearing. Owing to this contact angle, the bearing absorbs not only radial forces but, above all, axial forces in one direction of loading. At the same time, the single-row bearing supports radial forces.
The suffix TVP denotes a polyamide cage which guides the balls and keeps them at a distance. Such a plastic cage is characterised by its low weight and its elastic properties when in contact with the rolling elements. It is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees.
The abbreviation UO stands for a universal design, in which the rings are manufactured to ensure that, when fitted in an O or X configuration, a pair of bearings automatically sits flush with no play. No additional spacer rings or shims are required for this preload, which reduces the installation effort for paired bearing sets.
As this version is supplied without integrated contact seals, the lubricant reaches the rolling elements unimpeded. Sealing against contaminants and moisture must therefore be provided by external shaft seals or labyrinth systems fitted to the machine. Depending on the system design, the bearing can be operated using grease or lubricating oil.
