The FAG 7208 -B-XL-TVP-UA angular contact ball bearing (40x80x18 mm) accommodates high unilateral axial and radial forces and is suitable for general-purpose set-up installations.
The 7208 -B-XL-TVP-UA angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for demanding bearing arrangements subject to combined loads. Thanks to its contact angle of 40 degrees, this open bearing transmits high axial forces in one direction whilst simultaneously withstanding radial loads. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 with dimensions of 40 mm bore, 80 mm outer diameter and 18 mm width, this FAG roller bearing is designed for industrial maintenance and mechanical engineering applications. The integrated polyamide cage ensures quiet operation.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians primarily use this design where shafts are subjected to both axial guiding forces and radial loads simultaneously. Typical applications include bearing arrangements with combined loads and defined guiding functions. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, it can be flexibly integrated into oil- or grease-lubricated housings. For reliable operation, a continuous supply of lubricant via the machine system is required, tailored to the temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The abbreviation UA denotes a universal design for installation in pairs. When arranged in an O or X configuration, the bearing pair has a defined, low axial clearance. This eliminates the need for time-consuming adjustment of the bearing clearance during assembly. In conjunction with the 40-degree contact angle, the component effectively supports axial loads. When designing the system, the tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) and the temperature range of the TVP polyamide cage must be taken into account.
This roller bearing has an internal bore of 40 mm, an external diameter of 80 mm and a width of 18 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a groove. It is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1 from 100Cr6 roller bearing steel.
The TVP cage is made of polyamide and guides the rolling elements precisely between the raceways. This material reduces the weight of the rotating assembly and helps to ensure low-vibration operation. The cage retains its dimensional stability within the permissible temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius, provided it is compatible with the lubricant.
The 40-degree contact angle, indicated by the suffix ‘B’, optimises the bearing for withstanding high axial forces in one direction. The line of contact between the ball and the raceway runs at an angle to the radial plane. As a result, the bearing dissipates axial loads more effectively than a standard radial deep-groove ball bearing of the same dimensions.
Thanks to the UA universal design, two individual bearings can be fitted directly together without spacer rings. In an O-configuration, the support effect against tilting moments is increased, whilst the X-configuration better compensates for angular misalignment. In both variants, a small amount of axial play is automatically established, which simplifies installation in the workshop.
As an open roller bearing, this design does not feature any factory-fitted sealing washers. Lubrication is provided via the respective housing system, either with grease or oil. Users protect the bearing against the ingress of dirt particles and moisture by means of external seals, such as shaft seals, fitted to the housing.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. The material of the TVP polyamide cage is the determining factor for the thermal operating limit. Higher continuous temperatures can adversely affect the cage material, which is why the bearing should always be operated within this specification.
