The FAG 7203 -B-XL-TVP angular contact ball bearing reliably withstands combined loads whilst maintaining compact dimensions of 17 x 40 x 12 mm.
The single-row angular contact ball bearing 7203 -B-XL-TVP from FAG Rolling Bearings is designed for combined radial and single-direction axial loads. Thanks to its contact angle of 40 degrees, this bearing supports axial forces in one direction. Manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel with dimensions of 17 mm bore, 40 mm outer diameter and 12 mm width, the open design is suitable for industrial applications with continuous lubrication. The design complies with the standard tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) and offers defined operating behaviour with standard radial clearance.
Designs involving single-sided axial forces and simultaneous radial loads constitute the primary area of application for this series. Typical applications are found in shaft mountings where guiding forces must be accurately accommodated. As single-row angular contact ball bearings can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, users often fit these bearings in pairs, with one bearing facing the other. The open design allows direct access to lubricant from the surrounding machine housing.
The suffix ‘B’ denotes the large contact angle of 40 degrees, which ensures a high axial load capacity. Together with the lightweight polyamide cage (TVP), the ball unit operates quietly within a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The cage guides the rolling elements accurately whilst ensuring even load distribution. In the design, the housing provides the seal against external contaminants.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 17 mm, an outer diameter of 40 mm and a width of 12 mm. It is a single-row roller bearing without a flange or groove on the outer ring. These standardised key dimensions enable a precise fit when installed in standardised housing bores and on corresponding shaft shoulders.
The contact angle describes the line of force transmission between the raceways and the balls in relation to the radial plane. An angle of 40 degrees (designation B) gives the bearing a particularly high axial load-carrying capacity in one direction. This stabilises the bearing arrangement against unilateral thrust forces in machine components subjected to combined loads.
The suffix ‘TVP’ stands for a dimensionally stable polyamide cage. This material reduces the weight of the rotating components, ensures low friction and promotes smooth running. The cage can withstand temperatures between -20 and +120 degrees and is suitable for industrial lubricants.
Open bearings such as this type do not have integrated cover or sealing washers. They require external lubrication, for example via an oil bath or housing lubrication, as well as external housing seals to prevent contamination. The advantage lies in the reduced frictional resistance, as there are no sealing lips in contact with the inner ring that could cause abrasion.
The design, comprising standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and a polyamide cage, is rated for continuous operation from -20 to +120 degrees. Within this temperature range, the cage material and the bearing rings retain their dimensional stability. Users must select a lubricant whose viscosity and specification are approved for this temperature range.
Due to their design, single-row versions can only accommodate axial forces in one direction. To guide a shaft in both axial directions without play or with a defined preload, the component is typically positioned against a second angular contact ball bearing in an O or X arrangement. This increases the guidance accuracy and the rigidity of the entire shaft bearing arrangement.
