The SKF 7202 BEP angular contact ball bearing, measuring 15x35x11 mm, offers a compact solution for combined radial and axial loads.
The 7202 BEP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6). Thanks to its inclined raceways, the design can accommodate both radial and axial forces in one direction simultaneously. Designed as an open bearing, the bearing housing requires an external lubricant and an application-specific housing seal. The component covers an operating temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees and operates with normal radial clearance in the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel use this bearing when shafts must withstand not only radial forces but also defined axial thrusts in one direction. Typical applications include bearing arrangements with combined loads where precise one-sided axial support is required. As a single angular contact ball bearing, by its very design, can only accommodate axial forces from one side, in practice it is usually fitted in a set-up against a second bearing or as part of a specifically preloaded bearing set.
The letter B in the suffix denotes a contact angle of 40 degrees, whilst the E indicates an optimised internal design. This steep contact angle enables the bearing to absorb axial forces. The ball-guided polyamide cage (designation P) ensures quiet running and is characterised by low friction. As the outer ring has no flange or groove, the component can be fitted cylindrically into smooth housing bores.
With an internal diameter of 15 mm, an external diameter of 35 mm and a total width of 11 mm, the bearing complies with standardised dimensions. This facilitates direct replacement during repairs, as well as its integration into existing shaft and housing designs.
The suffix is broken down into three specific design features: the letter B refers to the 40-degree load angle for axial load capacity. The E indicates an optimised internal design. The P denotes the polyamide cage material.
Due to its single-row design and the diagonally offset raceways, the roller bearing supports axial loads in one direction only. If alternating or bidirectional thrust forces act on the shaft, a second bearing is fitted in a mirror-image configuration in an O or X arrangement.
Open roller bearings have neither cover plates nor sealing plates. This design is suitable for assemblies with their own lubrication system, such as those in an oil bath or with centralised grease lubrication. Furthermore, the absence of abrasive seals reduces rotational resistance, but requires the bearing housing to be sealed against dust and moisture on site.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees. The integrated polyamide cage and the standard roller bearing steel retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range, provided that the lubricant is specified for these temperatures.
The bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance in the standard tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds internationally to the ABEC 1 standard. The actual operating clearance is only established after installation, depending on the fit selected for the shaft and housing, as well as the axial preload.
