The SKF 3304 ATN9 angular contact ball bearing, with its main dimensions of 20 × 52 × 22.2 mm, can accommodate both high radial and axial loads in both directions simultaneously.
The 3304 ATN9 angular contact ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) in SKF’s Explorer design. Due to its internal design, this bearing functions equivalently to two single-row angular contact ball bearings in an O-configuration, whilst requiring less axial space. It is primarily suitable for bearing arrangements where combined loads consisting of radial forces and axial forces on both sides occur. With a bore of 20 mm, an outside diameter of 52 mm and a width of 22.2 mm, it fits into compact spaces in mechanical engineering.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians primarily use this bearing where rigid shaft guidance and the absorption of tilting moments are required. As it accommodates axial forces in both directions, the double-row design stabilises rotating shafts against axial thrust. Typical applications include compact bearing arrangements subject to combined radial and axial loads. The open design, without integrated sealing washers, allows for use in oil- or grease-lubricated housings where the lubricant can circulate freely and an external housing seal is in place.
The integrated polyamide cage guides the ball sets with low friction and ensures quiet running at operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Thanks to the 30-degree contact angle, the roller bearing transmits axial loads with high load-carrying capacity. Manufacture to tolerance class P6 for dimensional accuracy and P5 for running accuracy ensures precise centring and accurate concentricity. When replacing bearings or designing new assemblies, you should check whether the standard radial bearing clearance is compatible with the fits of your shaft and housing bore.
This bearing is characterised by a double-row design made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel with a 30-degree contact angle. It accommodates radial loads and axial forces in both directions. Manufactured to tolerance class P6 for dimensional accuracy and P5 for running accuracy, the SKF Explorer design offers smooth running. The lightweight polyamide cage guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration.
The dimensions are 20 mm internal diameter (bore), 52 mm external diameter and 22.2 mm overall width. The outer ring has neither a groove nor a flange, which is why the bearing can be fitted as a cylindrical unit into smooth housing bores. Always check the available installation space on the shaft and housing before fitting.
Open roller bearings do not have manufacturer-fitted cover plates or sealing discs. This design is suitable for applications with external housing seals, where continuous oil circulation lubrication or targeted relubrication with roller bearing grease is used. The lubricant can reach the balls and the polyamide cage unhindered to dissipate heat.
Normal bearing clearance refers to the standard clearance between the inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements prior to installation. When the bearing is pressed onto the bearing seat, this operating clearance is reduced slightly due to the oversize of the shaft or housing. For standard fits and normal operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees Celsius, this design provides balanced guidance.
The permissible temperature range is from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The upper temperature limit is determined by the dimensionally stable polyamide cage. At temperatures above this limit, the material may lose its stability, which is why the limit values should be observed to ensure reliable operation.
This classification combines a tighter dimensional tolerance in accordance with Class P6 with a finer concentricity tolerance in accordance with Class P5. The design limits the concentricity error to defined minimum values, improves the smooth running of the entire bearing assembly and ensures precise guidance of the rotating shaft.
