The SKF 3205 ATN9/C3 double-row angular contact ball bearing, with dimensions of 25 × 52 × 20.6 mm, offers a high load-carrying capacity for combined radial and axial loads.
The 3205 ATN9/C3 angular contact ball bearing is an open, double-row rolling bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. It is made from hardened standard bearing steel (100Cr6) and has a contact angle of 30 degrees. This geometry accommodates both radial and axial forces in both directions. Manufactured to the precise tolerance class P6 (ABEC 3), this design is particularly suitable for applications requiring precise shaft guidance and smooth running.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel primarily use double-row angular contact ball bearings where combined loads occur and there is limited axial installation space. Typical applications include rigid shaft mountings subject to combined radial and axial forces. As an open bearing, the lubricant can be integrated directly into the operating circuit. The design covers a practical temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius and retains its dimensional stability in demanding operating environments.
The suffix ATN9 denotes a polyamide cage. This cage material reduces friction and the weight of the rolling element guidance. The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This increased clearance between the balls and raceways compensates for thermal expansion caused by heating during operation or tight fits on the shaft and housing. Before installation, check the ambient conditions with regard to lubrication and contamination, as open bearings require a clean installation environment.
The double-row bearing has an inside diameter (bore) of 25 mm, an outside diameter of 52 mm and a width of 20.6 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which means the bearing can be fitted flush into cylindrical housing bores.
A polyamide cage is characterised by its low weight, smooth running characteristics and low friction losses. In combination with the lubricant, the material ensures quiet operation. The permissible temperature range for this combination of components is from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
Bearing clearance class C3 means that the bearing has greater radial clearance than the standard version. This design is intended to compensate for operational heating or the radial compression of the rings in fixed bearing seats, without the bearing becoming stressed during operation.
Thanks to its double-row design and an integrated contact angle of 30 degrees, this roller bearing can simultaneously accommodate high radial and axial loads from both directions. Compared with two separate single-row bearings, the compact double-row design saves installation space in the axial direction.
As this open bearing is supplied without integrated sealing washers, the lubricant must be supplied via the surrounding unit. Depending on the design, you can operate it using a suitable grease or lubricating oil. At the same time, external housing seals must protect against the ingress of moisture and dirt.
Tolerance class P6 denotes a higher level of manufacturing precision than the standard tolerance in terms of dimensional, geometric and running accuracy. The bearing meets tighter tolerance limits, which improves the guidance accuracy of rotating shafts and minimises vibrations throughout the system.
