The SKF 7218 BEP angular contact ball bearing, with dimensions of 90 × 160 × 30 mm and a 40-degree contact angle, offers a robust solution for combined radial and axial loads.
The SKF 7218 BEP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6), with a bore diameter of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 160 mm and a width of 30 mm. Thanks to the specifically angled raceways with a contact angle of 40 degrees, the bearing accommodates radial loads as well as axial forces in one direction. The outer ring is cylindrical, without a flange or groove, which facilitates integration into standard housing bores.
This single-row bearing is specifically designed for applications where axial forces acting on one side are combined with radial loads on the shaft. Typical applications include rotating mechanical assemblies and supported shaft lines with directional power transmission. Thanks to the defined contact angle of 40 degrees, the design provides stable support for axial load components. If axial guidance is required in both directions, the bearing is combined with a mating bearing.
This design features a lightweight polyamide cage and standard radial bearing clearance in tolerance class P0/PN (equivalent to ABEC 1). The polyamide cage guides the balls with low friction and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +120 degrees. As an open roller bearing without sealing washers, the design requires external sealing within the housing. This also allows for lubrication as required using suitable oil or grease.
This version has a bore of 90 mm, an outside diameter of 160 mm and a width across flats of 30 mm. These main dimensions correspond to the metric series for single-row angular contact ball bearings. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has no flange or groove, which facilitates installation in standard housings.
The suffix ‘B’ denotes a contact angle of 40 degrees for the absorption of axial forces in one direction. The designator ‘P’ denotes the polyamide cage, which guides the rolling elements smoothly and quietly during operation. In this configuration, the bearing is designed to withstand combined loads whilst ensuring smooth running.
Single-row angular contact ball bearings accommodate both radial and axial forces in exactly one direction. Thanks to the 40-degree contact angle, this design supports axial loads particularly effectively. If axial loads vary in direction during operation, the design requires the bearings to be arranged in pairs with a second angular contact ball bearing.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees. This range is determined by the material of the polyamide cage and the roller bearing steel (100Cr6). When selecting a lubricant, users should ensure that the grease or oil is suitable for these operating temperatures.
The open design does not feature integrated sealing washers, allowing lubricating oil or grease to circulate freely. Users can choose the lubricant flexibly to suit the specific application. To protect against dirt and lubricant leakage, the surrounding housing structure must be fitted with external seals.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance P0 or PN, which corresponds to ABEC Class 1. This tolerance class meets the standard dimensional and concentricity requirements in general mechanical engineering. It ensures a proper fit on shafts and in housing bores.
