The 3315 angular contact ball bearing from FAG Wälzlager (75 x 160 x 68.3 mm) accommodates high radial forces as well as axial forces in both directions within a compact installation space.
The double-row angular contact ball bearing 3315 from FAG Wälzlager is designed for applications where combined forces from the radial and axial directions on both sides occur. With its main dimensions of a 75 mm bore, 160 mm outside diameter and 68.3 mm width, the design is functionally equivalent to two single-row angular contact ball bearings, yet requires less axial installation space. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, a sheet steel cage guides the two rows of balls within a temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
This rolling bearing is suitable for designs that must accommodate not only high radial loads but also alternating or bidirectional axial forces. Typical applications include shaft mountings with combined load directions in general mechanical engineering. Thanks to its double-row design, the bearing counteracts tilting moments, which benefits rigid shaft guidance. As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, lubricant can be supplied directly via the surrounding housing structure.
The open angular contact ball bearing 3315 has no integrated sealing protection. The installation location therefore requires external sealing of the housing against dirt particles and moisture. This design has a standard radial clearance (tolerance class P0/ABEC 1), which is suited to typical operating temperatures and fit conditions. For applications within the permissible range of -20 to +150 degrees Celsius, the geometry – with no flange or groove on the outer ring – allows for mounting in a cylindrical housing seat.
With an internal diameter of 75 mm, an external diameter of 160 mm and a width of 68.3 mm, the bearing has standardised main dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical, without a flange or groove. These dimensions allow for direct installation in suitable housing and shaft seats in industrial machinery.
Double-row angular contact ball bearings simultaneously accommodate radial and axial forces from both directions. The two rows of balls, arranged at an angle, act like two individual bearings positioned opposite each other, yet require a smaller axial installation width. This design offers high rigidity and counteracts tilting moments at the bearing location.
As an open design, the roller bearing has no integrated grinding discs or cover plates. This allows lubricants such as oil or grease to reach the rolling elements and raceways unhindered. The bearing housing requires external sealing via a housing cover to prevent the ingress of dirt and the loss of lubricant.
Normal bearing clearance refers to the radial clearance between rolling elements and raceways when the bearing is unmounted, within the standard tolerance limits (tolerance class P0). This operating clearance compensates for temperature-induced expansion and standard fits during operation without generating undesirable constraint forces.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the rings made from 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel and the sheet steel cage is maintained within this range. When designing the bearing arrangement, care must be taken to ensure that a lubricant approved for the operating temperature is used.
Inside, a sheet steel cage guides the two rows of balls at a uniform distance from one another. Sheet steel cages offer good mechanical strength whilst being lightweight. They are resistant to common industrial oils and greases and are suitable for the entire temperature range up to +150 degrees Celsius.
