The SKF 7316 BECBP single-row angular contact ball bearing, measuring 80 × 170 × 39 mm, accommodates combined radial and axial loads at a 40-degree contact angle.
The SKF 7316 BECBP angular contact ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel for industrial applications. With an inner diameter of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 170 mm and a width of 39 mm, the component transmits forces at an angle to the radial plane. The Explorer version is characterised by enhanced precision: the bearing combines dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P6 with running accuracy to P5. Its applications include shaft mountings where radial forces and single-sided axial loads occur simultaneously.
This single-row angular contact ball bearing is suitable for demanding bearing arrangements where heavy radial loads are combined with axial forces in one direction. Thanks to the defined contact angle of 40 degrees, the design effectively supports axial forces. Typical applications are found in general mechanical and plant engineering where high demands are placed on guidance accuracy. If a second bearing is fitted in a mirror-image O or X arrangement, the bearing pair absorbs axial forces from both directions whilst maintaining minimal axial play.
The integrated polyamide cage guides the rolling elements quietly and reduces the weight of the rolling element set. This cage type is designed for a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The 40-degree contact angle increases the axial load-carrying capacity compared with bearings with a smaller angle. As this is an open design without integrated seals, the bearing location requires external sealing against contamination as well as a suitable lubrication supply with oil or grease.
With a bore of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 170 mm and a width of 39 mm, the bearing is suitable for standard mounting spaces. The outer ring is manufactured without a flange or groove. These dimensions allow for a precise fit within suitable housings and on standardised shaft seats.
The BECBP designation summarises technical specifications. The ‘B’ stands for the increased pressure angle of 40 degrees. ‘CB’ indicates suitability for installation in pairs in an O or X configuration with a deliberately low axial clearance. The code letter ‘P’ refers to the polyamide cage fitted.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. These limits are determined by the polyamide cage and the thermal resistance of the standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6. To ensure reliable operation within this temperature range, the selected lubricant must also be thermally suited to the ambient conditions.
The bearing combines dimensional accuracy to Class P6 with finer running accuracy to Class P5. Compared with standard tolerances, this results in lower concentricity errors and tighter manufacturing limits. This promotes smooth, low-vibration operation and makes the Explorer version particularly suitable for applications with increased accuracy requirements.
As this angular contact ball bearing is designed as an open type without integrated sealing washers, the surrounding housing provides protection against dirt and moisture. Lubrication is provided, depending on the application, by rolling-element bearing grease or a continuous oil supply, tailored to the rotational speed and thermal conditions at the bearing location.
A single angular contact ball bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction. If alternating or bidirectional axial loads occur, two bearings are mounted facing each other. When mounted in an O or X configuration, this CB design provides a defined, low axial clearance, which supports precise guidance.
