The SKF 30206 tapered roller bearing, with main dimensions of 30 × 62 × 17.25 mm, is designed to accommodate high radial forces and single-direction axial loads in mechanical engineering applications.
The 30206 tapered roller bearing belongs to the group of radial roller bearings and is characterised by its tapered rollers and raceways. This design results in line contact between the rollers and raceways, enabling the bearing to accommodate combined radial and axial loads. This product is a complete roller bearing from SKF in the Explorer series. With a bore of 30 mm, an outer diameter of 62 mm and a width of 17.25 mm, the unit is suitable for demanding rotational movements in gearboxes and drive units.
It is primarily used in designs where radial forces and axial forces occur simultaneously in one direction. Typical applications include gearbox shafts, wheel bearings and industrial drive systems. As single-row tapered roller bearings, by their design, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, designers usually fit a second bearing in a mirror-image configuration opposite the first. This paired arrangement ensures a play-free or preloaded guidance of the shaft under varying load directions.
Tapered roller bearings are separable: the inner ring, with the roller set in a sheet steel cage, can be fitted separately from the outer ring. This facilitates installation in the housing and onto the shaft. When selecting the bearing, the permissible temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees Celsius must be taken into account. The bearings are manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1). During installation, the operating clearance or preload is adjusted using shaft nuts or shims to suit the thermal behaviour of the bearing assembly.
With an internal diameter of 30 mm, an external diameter of 62 mm and a total width of 17.25 mm, the component complies with standard metric dimensions. These dimensions enable a precise fit when used as a spare part or in new designs on corresponding shaft seats and housing bores.
Tapered roller bearings transmit both high radial forces and axial forces from a single direction. The tapered arrangement of the rolling elements directs axial forces diagonally through the bearing. To guide a shaft securely in both axial directions, a second bearing must be fitted in the opposite orientation.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the bearing components and the integrated sheet steel cage thus covers the range of typical industrial environments as well as lubricated gearbox housings. Under extreme conditions, the lubricant and external sealing should be selected to suit the prevailing temperatures.
SKF’s Explorer designation stands for optimised internal geometry, improved surface finish of the raceways and carefully selected material quality. These design features help to reduce friction, promote better lubrication film formation and ensure smooth running, which can have a positive impact on service life under demanding operating conditions.
Manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN, the accuracy complies with the ABEC 1 specification. This is the standard accuracy class for industrial applications, providing suitable dimensional and runout tolerances for typical speeds and fits.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the tapered rollers and keeps them at a uniform distance along the inner ring raceway. It withstands operational vibrations within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius and is suitable for use with mineral oil-based greases and gear oils.
