The SKF 30306 tapered roller bearing accommodates combined radial and axial loads whilst maintaining compact overall dimensions of 30 × 72 × 20.75 mm.
The 30306 tapered roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing in standard design from the SKF Explorer performance class. It consists of an inner ring with a set of rollers and a separate outer ring, and is designed as a complete tapered roller bearing. Thanks to the line contact between the tapered rollers and the raceways, this design can accommodate high radial forces as well as single-direction axial loads in demanding industrial applications.
Design engineers primarily use this bearing where high radial forces are combined with axial forces. Typical applications include industrial gearboxes, shaft bearings and guide rollers in general mechanical engineering. As a single tapered roller bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, it is usually fitted in pairs in an O or X arrangement opposite a second bearing, in order to support both load directions and guide the shaft precisely.
A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements along the inner ring raceway and retains the lubricant within the contact area. The open bearing allows operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees and can be adapted to the type of lubricant selected by the customer. As the inner and outer rings can be fitted separately, installation in housings and on shafts is particularly straightforward, as both rings can be positioned independently of one another.
The main dimensions are 30 mm internal diameter (bore), 72 mm external diameter and 20.75 mm overall width. These standardised metric dimensions facilitate direct replacement in housings and shaft mounts.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This standard precision provides the necessary dimensional and concentricity accuracy for conventional mechanical engineering as well as for gearbox applications without any special precision requirements.
The inner ring, complete with a set of rollers, and the outer ring are designed as separate components. This design makes assembly considerably easier, as both rings can be fitted onto the shaft or into the housing independently of one another before the system is pushed together.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within this range, the components and the sheet steel cage retain their mechanical strength and dimensional stability during normal operation.
In the case of single-row tapered roller bearings, the bearing clearance is only established during installation by deliberately aligning the bearing against a second bearing fitted in a mirror-image configuration. The desired operating clearance or a slight preload can be set using spacer rings, shaft nuts or shims.
At SKF, ‘Explorer’ denotes a refined manufacturing stage with optimised surface finish on the contact surfaces. The carefully matched roller and raceway geometry improves lubricant film formation and reduces friction peaks during operation.
