The FAG 32220 single-row tapered roller bearing, measuring 100 × 180 × 49 mm, is designed to withstand high radial and unilateral axial loads in mechanical engineering applications.
The FAG 32220 tapered roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed specifically for combined radial and axial loads. With a bore of 100 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a width of 49 mm, the bearing complies with standardised dimensions. The rolling elements roll along conical raceways, ensuring that the forces are distributed evenly. This promotes smooth running in demanding industrial applications and contributes to a long service life for the assembly.
This single-row roller bearing is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces and axial loads from a single direction. Typical applications include industrial gearboxes and mechanical drive units. As a single tapered roller bearing can, by design, only support axial forces in one direction, in practice it is usually paired with a second bearing arranged in a mirror-image configuration. This pairing ensures a play-free or defined preloaded guidance of shafts under high continuous loads.
The 32220 tapered roller bearing features a sheet steel cage that guides the rollers and is suitable for an operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. A key practical advantage is its disassembly: the inner ring with its set of rollers can be fitted separately from the outer ring. This makes installation in housings and on shafts straightforward. When fitting, ensure the axial play is set precisely to achieve even load distribution during operation.
The roller bearing has an inside diameter of 100 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a total width of 49 mm. These standardised dimensions enable a precise fit when mounted on suitable shafts and in housing bores designed for standard metric tapered roller bearings.
The conically arranged rollers absorb high radial forces as well as axial forces from one direction. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, the bearing can also withstand heavy mechanical shock loads. For axial guidance on both sides, you must fit two bearings back-to-back.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the rings and the integrated sheet steel cage ensure reliable continuous operation within this temperature range. When selecting a lubricant, you should ensure that the grease or oil is specified for these operating temperatures.
P0, or ABEC 1, refers to the standard tolerance for roller bearings. This classification defines the permissible deviations in dimensions and concentricity. For standard gearboxes and general mechanical engineering applications, this tolerance class offers a tried-and-tested level of fitting accuracy for everyday continuous operation.
In this type of bearing, the inner ring, roller set and sheet steel cage form a single unit, whilst the outer ring is flangeless and can be removed separately. This design simplifies assembly, as the outer and inner rings can be fitted separately into the housing and onto the shaft respectively.
Operating clearance is only created during installation by deliberately adjusting the axial position against a second tapered roller bearing. You can adjust the desired axial or radial clearance using shaft nuts, spacer rings or shims. Correct adjustment helps to ensure that all rollers bear the load evenly during operation.
