The SKF 32028 X tapered roller bearing, a single-row roller bearing measuring 140 × 210 × 45 mm, can accommodate high radial and axial loads simultaneously.
The 32028 X tapered roller bearing is part of SKF’s Explorer performance class of rolling bearings and is designed as a complete bearing unit. With a bore of 140 mm, an outer diameter of 210 mm and a width of 45 mm, this design is used in industrial mechanical engineering. Due to the tapered arrangement of the rolling elements, the component accommodates radial loads together with axial forces from a single direction. A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the rollers evenly along the raceways.
Design engineers primarily use this bearing in gearboxes and heavy-duty shaft mountings where combined forces are present. As single-row tapered roller bearings can only accommodate axial loads in one direction, they are usually fitted in conjunction with a second bearing arranged in the opposite direction. The separate assembly of the outer ring and inner ring, together with the roller set, also simplifies installation in complex housing designs. This allows bearing clearance to be adjusted during assembly to suit the specific operating conditions.
The integrated sheet steel cage keeps the tapered rollers spaced apart and allows for an permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Manufacture to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1 complies with the industrial standard for standard tolerances, which makes replacement in existing systems straightforward to plan. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, the seal is provided by the housing and lubricant is supplied in a controlled manner. Check the shaft mounting dimensions in advance.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 140 mm, an external diameter of 210 mm and a total width of 45 mm. These standardised key dimensions enable precise fitting onto corresponding shaft journals and into standardised housing bores in industrial and gearbox engineering.
This classification defines the dimensional and running surface tolerances of the bearing in accordance with international standards. P0 corresponds to the standard tolerances of the DIN and ISO standards, whilst ABEC 1 represents the equivalent US classification. For most standard applications in industrial mechanical engineering, this precision grade offers sufficient guidance quality and fitting accuracy.
The version with a sheet steel cage is specified for operating temperatures between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. This makes the component suitable for the thermal conditions encountered in industrial gearbox manufacturing. When designing the system, you should select a lubricant suitable for this operating range to ensure the roller set functions correctly.
As a single-row roller bearing, this design can only accommodate axial loads in one direction. In practice, therefore, a second bearing is usually fitted to the shaft in a mirror-image arrangement. This paired arrangement creates a bearing arrangement that absorbs axial forces in both directions and supports the guidance of the shaft.
A sheet steel cage combines mechanical strength with low weight. It reliably guides the individual tapered rollers along the raceways and prevents them from coming into contact with one another. Furthermore, steel is resistant to common lubricants and can withstand temperatures of up to +120 degrees Celsius.
Tapered roller bearings are not self-retaining in design, which means that the outer ring can be fitted separately from the inner ring with its set of rollers. This feature makes it easier to press them onto shafts and to fit them separately into bearing housings. During assembly, the required bearing clearance or a defined preload is then set.
