The FAG 32221 tapered roller bearing, measuring 105 × 190 × 53 mm, withstands high radial and unilateral axial loads in industrial drives.
The 32221 tapered roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing in a standard design for heavy mechanical loads. As a complete tapered roller bearing, it consists of an inner ring with a set of rollers and the corresponding outer ring. As the extended contact lines of the tapered rolling elements converge on the axis of rotation, this bearing handles combined forces without inducing internal stresses. The manufacturer, FAG, produces this component to the standard tolerance P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1), which ensures a dimensionally accurate fit on shafts and in housings.
Typical applications for this bearing include industrial gearbox construction and shaft mountings subject to combined loads. Single-row tapered roller bearings accommodate high radial forces as well as axial forces from exactly one direction. In practice, they are usually fitted in pairs, with a second bearing positioned in a mirror-image configuration to provide axial support. As the outer and inner ring assemblies can be fitted separately, the bearing can be easily mounted on 105 mm shafts.
The integrated sheet steel cage keeps the tapered rollers spaced apart and guides them along the inner ring raceway. The roller bearing operates within a temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees Celsius and is suitable for standard industrial environments. As the design is open, grease or lubricating oil can reach the raceways directly. A specially designed external housing seal prevents lubricant loss during operation.
With a bore of 105 mm, an outside diameter of 190 mm and a width of 53 mm, the bearing complies with standardised key dimensions. These specifications determine the required installation space on the shaft and within the housing bore for industrial applications.
The design as a complete tapered roller bearing comprises the inner ring, including the set of rollers in a sheet steel cage, and the corresponding separate outer ring. This split design makes it possible to press both bearing elements onto the shaft and housing in succession during assembly.
Due to the conical arrangement of the raceways, this design accommodates both radial forces and single-sided axial forces. To accommodate alternating or double-sided axial loads, two single-row tapered roller bearings are mounted facing each other in the assembly, usually in an O or X configuration.
P0 and PN denote the standard tolerance in accordance with ISO and DIN standards, comparable to ABEC 1 under US standards. They specify permissible dimensional and concentricity tolerances and meet the usual requirements in general mechanical engineering and gearbox construction.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the bearing rings and steel cage retain their dimensional stability. For continuous operation, it is necessary to select a lubricant that is designed for this temperature range.
The roller bearing is designed as an open unit without integrated seals as standard. To prevent lubricating grease or oil from leaking out and to keep out dirt, the surrounding machine housing must be sealed with external shaft seals or labyrinth seals.
