The SKF 30224 tapered roller bearing, in the Explorer version with dimensions of 120 × 215 × 43.5 mm, can accommodate high radial and axial loads in one direction.
This single-row roller bearing is designed as a complete tapered roller bearing and consists of an inner ring with a roller cage and the corresponding outer ring. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the tapered rollers along the raceway. The Explorer version from SKF is designed for demanding industrial applications. The 30224 tapered roller bearing covers an operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees and is suitable for applications involving combined loads.
The bearing is primarily suitable for designs in which high radial forces and single-sided axial forces occur simultaneously. Typical applications include shaft mountings with combined loads and defined axial guidance. As the bearing’s design means it can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, it is usually paired with a second tapered roller bearing during operation. This paired arrangement effectively supports shaft guides within the housing.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification. This standard defines the permissible dimensional and runout tolerances for industrial series production applications. The split design allows the outer ring to be fitted independently of the inner ring set, which simplifies installation in confined spaces. During assembly, users can set the desired operating clearance via the mating bearing so that it is either free of play or slightly preloaded.
A single-row roller bearing with tapered rollers, designed for combined loads. Its dimensions are 120 mm bore diameter, 215 mm outside diameter and 43.5 mm overall width.
The component simultaneously absorbs high radial forces and axial forces in one direction. To accommodate axial forces in both directions, a second bearing, positioned in a mirror-image configuration, must be fitted.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees. Within this temperature range, the components retain their dimensional stability when a suitable lubricant is used.
The ‘Explorer’ designation refers to a modified version produced by SKF, in which the material properties and roller profiles are designed for demanding, continuous industrial use.
A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage is used in the bearing. This keeps the tapered rollers at a uniform distance apart and withstands the usual thermal and mechanical stresses during operation.
The outer ring can be pressed on separately from the inner ring with the roller set. This separate installation simplifies the assembly process and allows the bearing preload to be adjusted precisely during assembly.
