The FAG 33018 tapered roller bearing, measuring 90 × 140 × 39 mm, accommodates combined radial and single-direction axial loads in industrial applications.
The 33018 tapered roller bearing is an open, single-row roller bearing in a standard design. FAG Rolling Bearings manufactures this complete component with tapered rolling elements designed to transmit both radial and axial forces simultaneously. Thanks to the line contact between the tapered rollers and the raceways, this design offers high rigidity during operation. With a bore of 90 mm and an outside diameter of 140 mm, the unit is suitable for demanding shaft mountings.
Typical applications include general mechanical engineering and gearbox construction, as well as in powertrains where high radial forces are combined with axial guiding forces. As a single tapered roller bearing can only accommodate axial loads in one direction, designers usually arrange the bearing in a mirror-image configuration with a second bearing. This arrangement ensures precise shaft guidance and provides stable support for alternating load directions during operation.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the tapered rollers precisely and maintains a uniform spacing between them on the raceway. This cage design is resistant to lubricants and is designed for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees. Manufactured to standard tolerances (tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1), the roller bearing meets the typical requirements for concentricity and fitting accuracy in standard industrial applications.
With an internal diameter of 90 mm, an external diameter of 140 mm and a total width of 39 mm, these standardised key dimensions determine the installation space on the shaft and within the bearing housing. Before installation, check the mating dimensions of the surrounding components.
This single-row bearing accommodates high radial loads as well as axial loads in one direction. The angular raceways are designed to effectively dissipate combined loads. To accommodate axial loads in both directions, the bearing is usually paired with a second tapered roller bearing.
Tapered roller bearings are not designed to be self-retaining. The inner ring, together with the set of rollers and the sheet steel cage, forms a unit that can be fitted as a whole, whilst the outer ring can be removed separately. This design facilitates separate installation and the subsequent adjustment of the operating clearance.
Designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees, the built-in sheet steel cage retains its dimensional stability. When commissioning the unit, ensure that the lubricant used is also specified for these operating temperatures.
As the standard accuracy class for industrial roller bearings, P0/PN (comparable to ABEC 1) defines mandatory limit dimensions for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy. For most drives and gearboxes, this standard tolerance offers a precise-fitting and cost-effective solution.
